Fozzie Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 It's come to the time I need to change quite a lot of things on my bike. So far ive done the oil, filter, spark plugs and have brake lines and pads to go on as well as an air filter. I want to do the coolant and was wondering if stuff from halfords would do or if I should invest in anything else like engine ice. I read it keeps engine temp at its optimal for longer and with summer here I've noticed my bikes temp really struggles to stay below 90 when I'm below 40mph. My rr and last 600f did this and it's annoyed me so any advice would be appreciated Quote
Stu Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 halfrauds stuff is good enoughI wouldnt worry about the temp as long as it goes down when the fan kicks in or you start moving if not clean the rad personally you could mask a problem with that other stuff Quote
Tango Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I've not used Engine Ice.....but I think that in summer running at below 40mph it's inevitable for the engine to heat up.......that's why they have fans.... My Speed 4 used to hit 106C in 30mph traffic pretty quick....but the fan always brought it down....and once I got on the open road it would sit at 80-85C in summer....75ish in Winter.I just used run-of-the-mill antifreeze mixed with DI water in the right concentration. I think you only need to start worrying if the temp doesn't start to drop when the fan comes on..... Quote
Boro Jake Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 i'm sure the halfords stuff, good shit so far, make sure you completely flush the old fluid out mind. Quote
Fozzie Posted June 1, 2012 Author Posted June 1, 2012 The temp goes down like it should, I just get annoyed with it climbing to 106 degrees and then the fan coming on and it roasting my legs constantly, it's not as bad as the kawasakis I've had mind but still And a few people swear by the stuff so thought I'd ask first as I'm just inclined to get the stuff from halfords like I always do unless it was stuff people on here thought it was common practise to use it!! Colin the Bear Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Warm air making you uncomfortable is nothing compared to an air cooled cylinder head branding you through leathers. SSSzzzztttt. Arrgghhhhttp://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z28/Colin_the_bear/yikes.gif Quote
