Guest Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Hi All,I have a Honda CG 125 with a rack on it and I want to add a top box. The rack is shown in the attached picture. When I look at the mounting plates for top boxes, they come with steel brackets with a hole in the middle and two indentations across the length of the bracket, as shown in the attached picture. However it looks to me as if the size of the steel brackets are too small for the rack, specifically the distance between the indentations in the steel bracket is much less than the distance between the bars on the rack.My question is therefore this - how am I supposed to attached a top box and/or mounting plate to the rack?I am sure I am missing something here because the rack is obviously designed to have a top box fitted to it, or is it the case that this rack can only be used with a very specific top box designed only for it?Thanks!Martin. There is about 7.5 cm between the mid-point of the two bars that go across the rackYou can see here that the distance between the indentations on the bracket is about 4cm, much less than the rack Quote
Nogin Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Need a photo of the topbox mounting plate, but if I right in thinking just go to B&Q and get a bit of metal plate and drill it too fit! Quote
mattycoops43 Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 I just fitted one to my bike, I ended up just bending the brackets so they were bent in the right place. I did it so it just hooked over the rack at one end, but went right round the tube as they weren't long enough to go over two tubes. Quote
mattycoops43 Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 You should consult with some mechanic and he will suggest that what you should do. That's helpful! Quote
Throttled Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 I dont think you are missing anything. Those brackets will not work with that rack. You need to do sort of modification. Quote
Lumor_uk Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Most universal base plates say some modification may be required. Your going to need to get creative.Consider a block of wood underneath, might look bad but by the state of your bike it would be an asset Quote
