So, I still have the YBR, I was going to do it up before selling it but ended up getting more run down. Now it wont start.

There is no spark in the plug. When holding the HT lead in my hand when it is no longer attached to the plug, I get an electric shock when I push the starter button. Is this the norm or a sign of needing a new HT lead?

If its norm, can you guys help me figure out why shes not firing up?

Fuel is getting through as I can smell it when the plug is out, I can feel the pressure if I put my finger over the hole so all is good that end. As I said, the plug is not igniting. The old plug was not firing so I ought a new one, this one isnt either. There must be electricity getting through the HT lead if I am getting a shock, so I am only really left with one option, the HT lead itself. Although, saying that, I am sure it was shocking me when the bike was running fine so im not sure if its normal for a HT lead to do that

The HT lead should give you a shock, be careful, it could damage your pacemaker

You need to ground the metal part of the spark plug against the engine in order for it to spark, not just have it plugged in, in mid air.

If it still doesn't spark, and providing it's not a duff plug, it could be either lead or coil.

... I knew that...

So ground it on the engine yea? Lol

yes put the electrode part of the spark plug against the engine and turn engine over failing that do you remember how you used to test the 9v square batteries on your tongue? :seeya:

Could be the plug caps. Happened to me once, the cap had unscrewed and was barely touching the HT lead insides. If your getting a shock, I doubt it would be the coil.

ok, so earthed, the spark does infact spark. Now I cant figure out what the hell could be wrong?

Right then, that leaves two other easy things to try.

1 - Do a voltage check on the battery, maybe you've had the bike sat for a while and there isn't enough spark to ignite the fuel mix effectively.

2 - Poor fuel mix.

How long has the bike been stood? Was there fuel in the carb when left? Have you tried full choke and no choke to start?

New battery, I killed the old one. I put some fuel stabaliser in it too, but been stood for about 6 months, not been started for about 4

Try some fresh fuel, you got a spark so no real reason why it should not fire, apart from a glued up carb
