My 50cc generic trigger wont start, when i try electric start it just clicks. I've tried jumping it and it try's to start but gives up. I have also tried kick starting it and the kickstart just stays down. What can i do?

If the starter just 'clicks' then it is either the battery or (worse) the starter dog is f@@ked.

As to the kickstart lever staying down - looks like a broken return spring (easy fix).

Probably not running from bump start due to not enough 'juice' for a decent spark. Make sure there are no lights on (inc indicators) and try again. Failing that - try charging up the battery.

Hope you get it fixed cheaply.

Welcome to the forum.

When you say it tries to start how do you mean?

The clicking usually means there is not enough power to turn the engine over to start it, but there is some power getting through

Push starting it usually solves that problem though, so when you say it doesnt it could mean the battery is just too flat (it still needs to produce a spark even when push started)

Or it could be as GOG said the starter "dog" - but im not machanically minded enough to know what that is.

When you turn the ignition on is there enough battery power to turn the lights/indicators/horn on? If not then it is almost definately the battery.

The kick start lever stayingdownis almost definately not related its just (again, as GOG said) a bad spring

Other possible causes for it not starting when pushed are

not enough fuel

fuel tap is on the off position

using the wrong technique - http://www.wikihow.com/Push-Start-a-Motorcycle

Also if you are kick starting then make sure its in neutral and try turning the throttle as you kick to get fuel into the system. However if you try doing this meathod more than say (just guessing here) 5 times in a row, you could end up flooding the engine. If this happens thenjust leave it alone for 5 minutes to let the build up of petrol disperse

Has it been sat a while? If so you could have clogged something up, but we will get to that later if thats the case

Firstly have you got any petrol, stupid question I know but start with the easy things first! Is the fuel hose in the 'on' or 'reserve' position? What about the sparkplug how new is it, have you taken it out and checked to see if its covered in gunk? If not then do that next, take it out give it a good wipe down and leave it out for 5-10mins to let any excess petrol in the engine evaporate. Put the sparkplug back in and give it another go, first with the button and if that fails get a mate to push you down the road and try starting it. If that fails try some of the other suggestions above.

Good luck!!
