Guest Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Hi there. For a while now i have been riding a aprilia tuareg 600 wind. It is my first bike big since passing my test. We bought it cheap and i am just using it to get used to the power of a bigger engine. My last bike was a 1984 honda xl 125 rc. It has been 6 months now and i am enjoying it but there is one thing that bugs me. It is the off road style tyres that are on it. You can feel it in the wet, it just does not fill me with any confidence. The bike can only do about 95mph, even sitting at 60 going around long bends you feel the bike may slide from under you.My question is, what tyres would you recommend? Wheel sizes areFront 90/90 - 21 - TTRear 130/80 - 17 (current tyres are 180/80 - 17) - TTHere is a picture of the bike. If you are familiar with the aprillia tuareg, this is far from standard lol! The previous owner bought it from someone who modified for off road.http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/176013_4583090782589_1082879234_o.jpghttp://sphotos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/48186_4583206665486_1092909226_o.jpgHere is a picture of when we first picked it up. http://sphotos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/391389_4076089027862_434640093_n.jpgThanksMarc Quote
Tango Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Hi mate....I'm not familiar with this bike.....but do you say the rear rim is 130 and it has a 180 tyre on it?....if so that could be your problem..... The tyres are designed for a particular profile that will put a specific footprint on the road.....so squeezing a larger tyre onto that rim would distort the tyre profile and alter the footprint.....so you could have a tyre that, instead of having a nice linear rounded profile from vertical to maximum lean angle, it could triangulate....so you end up with a kind of V profile......so the tyre has a small footprint in the vertical....and then drops onto the side of the V as you lean it....so you get this kind of falling sensation when you lean the bike. Always stick to the correct tyre size for the rims on the bike as they are optimized for the best footprint on both vertical and leaning..... Anyone who can remember the old Dunlop TT100 tyres will remember this falling sensation when leaning the bike over...... Quote
Stu Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 as Tango says the tyres size wont help if its the wrong size also the tread pattern wont do you no favours on the roads even in the dry they will slide easier then a road biased tyre Quote
Guest Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Thanks for the replys. Yes the size of the rear wheel is a size 130 and the tyre is 180. I am looking at conti trial attack tyres. They have the correct sizes for my bike. Would you recommend them? I would imagine tyres that where made for yamaha xt660`s etc would suit my bike? Also here is some info about the standard bikehttp://www.desertpistons.com/4strokesd/ ... Tuareg.htm Quote

When the tax runs out in 4 months we will strip it and clean it properly for the summer Give the frame a paint job as well. But as for the tyres, once they are scrubbed in i will say something about them so far so good Quote
