Broken Lock

Hello everyone.

My lock is broken on my zx6r 2009. My question is can I just buy a new lock assembly or will I have to buy a new master key set and ECU to go with it? Just a new master key set is about a grand!!!!

im not totally sure but you might be able to buy new ign and get key programmed to the ecu you are best ringing kawasaki and asking them

i know its not a bike but vauxhalls can have new ign fitted then plugged into laptop to program key and ign to ecu and for a cost of about 150 quid now

Is the key alarm or immobilizer built in?

Usually its a ring near the barrel or the bottom half can have it in

I don't think you will need the whole lot

Cheers Stu. It has an immobilizer built in. the manual says you can only use the ignition with one of the three programmed keys that come with the bike. The red master or the two black copies.

Reading my Yamaha manual it says the red key is for recoding the black keys, so I wonder if the dealership can just replace the broken bit and use the red one to code the system back to the original chip....

I'd start by having a chat with them, no point worrying until you know its bad, it could be something over nothing
