Guest Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 ive had a issue with charging problems so ive i ordered a new regulator/rectifier and borrowed a mate alternater meter voltage checker the old recitifier wasnt charging so i fitted the new one and the meter showed it was charging the battery after a short ride around and getting fuel i arrived home and could smell melting plactic remove the right rear side panel to find the new after market recitifier and completly melted...so got me a multimeter the recifier is broken 1 pin give no reading at all the other to connection have 0.5 between both Made my to the stator pins I have resistance between 2 but one pin I get nothink at all checked voltage n between 2 im getting good 20+ volt at idle but the same one im getting no reading at The pin is burnt out and the around plastic area and the pin is the same one on the rectifier call it pin 3 n yellow pin 3 both of then give no resistance readingsDoes this mean I have a short some where or a faulty statorAlso if the rectifier is connect it keep blowing my 30amp solinoid fuse Thanks again jamie Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Aftermarket Rectifier?Correct type / voltage / heatsink?Have you got the wiring diagram? There should be two outputs with one return from the stator 'Y' . The three coils should all be the same (near enough) value in ohms (when disconnected). Are you sure the rectifier was OK? Quote

Thank u for reply Yes it was correct part but aftermarket was made of plastic with heatsink but melted Brought a oem part now metal with fans to cool the part Im getting good volts from stator but on from 2 wires one wire I receive nothink I have haynes manul etc n from looking the wiring is all connect correctly Its a 3 way charging system n from what I under stand the 3 stators cables should all give volts n resistance Quote
Fozzie Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 The stator sounds bad!3 arms, all should have the same readout of 20-something volts as its carbed. They are known to fail on this bike so replace! Quote
Dynamo_Delboy Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 My reg/rec melted on my bike.(cbr600f2)I managed to get a new 1 from littelcat from an r6.Fitted it and bike has been totally fine since. Quote
Tango Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 If you're handy with a multimeter the troubleshooting chart in the link may help..... http://www.electrosport.com/media/pdf/f ... iagram.pdf Quote
Rik398 Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Yeah the stator sounds bad. You should be getting very similar voltage read-outs across all three wires. If one is giving you nothing, then chances are that the stator is burned out. As for the reg/rec, I am not sure in terms of your specific bike, buy you can get a universal MOSFET regulator. The bike you have may have a SHUNT type, and as far as I know the MOSFET units are more efficient. I will try and hunt down the website I went to, but there is a guy who re - winds and sells new stator and rotor systems, and also sells a 'universal' reg / rec. Nut from what you are saying it does sound as if your stator may be the issue, like I said you should be getting very very similar read outs across all 3 wires. Also watch out for any corroded connectors across the charging system, if the stator has burned out you may find that a connection from the stator to the reg/rec may also need replacing / attention. Rik398 Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Here is the website that I got my stuff from, decent prices and a fast turn around if you want t go down the stator re-wind route. http://www.bbbikeshop.co.uk/ Quote
Guest Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 hi thank for ur replysyh my r/r is brand new oem part working correctlyreguarding the stator i come to the conclusion that its at fault after using the fault finding chart giving above its all working back the statorthe 3rd wire which is burnt out that connect the r/r dose give very small volts i mean like 0.09 volts im in the process of replacing the stator waiting on part to arrivealso got my freind who is a electrition goin to give my stator wiring the once over to check for shorts thanks jamie Quote
