al_stu Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Hi AllWell its about time some of the winter jobs got done! The paint is all peeling away on my rear wheel, so Im going to take it off and get it painted. Nothing complicated its already black and want it to stay that wayAnyone know of a place in the S.Yorkshire/Derbyshire area? Sheffield would be great but Derby and Nottingham not too far away either. Will I need to prep it in any way for them or if I just take it off and clean it that'll be fine?ThanksAlex Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 look into powder coating much stronger than paint less likely to chip and far easier to keep clean just mean dropping wheel off the bike tyre off and discs off and maybe bearings out but far nicer looking and will not be a lot more money to get done Quote
Tango Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 There are places around that will remove the tyre, powder coat the wheel and refit the tyre....... Quote
Stu Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I have painted plenty of wheels with great success and not chipping its easy to do yourself and the trick is not to use loads of paint as the thicker it is the easier it chips powder coating is miles tougher though so if your prepared to pay someone to paint then go powder coating as it will be around the same price if not cheaper Quote
al_stu Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 ooo didnt think of painting it myself...I'm not too bothered about the coat, the bike is probably only with me for for another 8 months or so. and I prefer to do bits myself! What would you use, just some hammerite? Quote
Stu Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 you want some etching primer and just some black paint and some lacquer you must use etch primer otherwise it wont stick to any alloy Quote
al_stu Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 Cheers Stu.I'll be back once I f**k it up haha Quote
Stu Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 the easiest way I found it to suspend it with a bar through the bearings and spin it slowly as you paint Quote
