neilzomg Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Was traveling home last week and the back wheel inside where the brake shoes were smoking.I was working on it and could have been a posibility that i overtightened the axle as the wheel looks like it was rubbing against the brake housing. The'res no noise from the wheel and the bearings looked fine and didn't seem to be anything wrong with the wheel or brake shoe housing. could i just have overtightened the axle? Quote
megawatt Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Probably not. The axle nut can be tightened until you fart. It's supposed to be tight. Probably the brake drum is oval or warped. Put bike on centre stand and spin the wheel, if no noises keep tightening adjuster until ther are and then back off until there aren't. Go for a ride, preferably on a long uphill section and come to a halt without using back brake. If drum is hot , back off the adjuster some more. Brake shoe cam could also be sticking. Quote
neilzomg Posted February 23, 2014 Author Posted February 23, 2014 If it badly aligned could it do something to it as im 100% sure its badly off. Im planning on leaving it in to get a lot of work done, new suspension, chain, sprockets, new bearings etc to get everything ruled out it needs a good service.I get the work done cheap anyway, a guy i know fixes it for me for next to nothing if i provide the parts.Neil.
