Convincing parents and a first bike decision

Had trouble convincing my mum she gave in eventually, but she does get angry if i don't wear proper gear, which i do all the time now anyway. but kevlar jeans boots gloves jacket and helmet. takes almost no time to get it all on so it's not a burden and i don't think it impedes my riding enjoyment one bit :)

As for bikes, suzuki van van is a nice little bike, rode one for my CBT, slow as sin though probably hit 65 and it was not liking it. If you can't get something good for your money, save it and wait a little while, i'd recomend a YBR or CBF more money but i don't hear many problems with them :)

I remember back in the day having a similar conversation with my mother over getting an air rifle, she said no so I went and got one...too late then.

Your old enough just tell her your doing it, she has to deal with the fact your growing up so that's her problem not yours, your life lead it how you want or regret it later....that goes for married life too.

A great lesson in life.... Its always easier to get "Forgiveness" than "Permission"...

Ive only just got my first bike at the age of 30, which I think is really unfair as my brother was allowed one!! but the moral to that story is if you want a bike you will end up getting one at some point! I got a Honda CBR 125 as my first bike, I love it, its an older model (2004) with a few dents and scratches already on it....but I didnt want to pay a fortune for something brand spanking new and that im likely to drop (and already have :crybaby: ) and definitely pay out for the right protective gear... I work in the local xray department and can confirm that people who come off wearing trainers and trackies do not fair well!! good luck convincing your mum...let us know how you get on and what bike you choose :)

I got my first bike in 1977 , my father was dead against it(he was a scooter boy in his youth)

However my mother always loved bikes, my advice to anyone is convince your mum and your dad will agree , anything for a quiet life.

This advice comes free of charge.

It's a service we offer to all.

I'm 46, started riding at 16 and my Mum still hates me riding a bike..........

If she is dead set against it, you either have to respect her wishes, or get one anyway and prove her wrong by riding carefully........

Personally, I would buy a cheap second hand bike that you have had checked out by a mechanic or someone who knows about bikes
