bluepanido Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Hi all,I wonder if anyone can suggest what is causing a rattling noise with my bike, a Yamaha YBR 125.When I let go of the throttle, a strange rattling noise comes from somewhere underneath me. If I coast with the clutch in and the bike in gear, the noise still happens. However, if I coast with the bike in neutral, no noise! When I change gear, the rattling starts as I pull the clutch in, stops for the split second when I'm changing gear, then starts again until I let the clutch out. I think it's getting worse and I assume it's the gearbox, but I know very little about the mechanics of a bike. Thanks Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 check the basics first like chain tension, loose shield on exhaust, and anything slightly loose that could vibrate Quote
bluepanido Posted April 5, 2014 Author Posted April 5, 2014 Cheers guys. I'll tighten the chain and see if it makes a difference. Quote
Bogof Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Cheers guys. I'll tighten the chain and see if it makes a difference. Don't just go ahead and tighten it. Check the tension first. Refer to either your manual or the sticker on your swingarm for the correct tension, then check yours. Only if it's loose according to either the manual or the sticker should you tighten it. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 dont just tighten it as that can do more harm than good make sure you set it at the correct tension at the tightest spot of the chain as you rotate the wheel normally thre will be a part of the chain with a tight spot set adjustment on that bit also make sure chain is well lubed up and not running totally dry Quote
9bhp Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Also check that your centre stand is not knocking against your swaingarm.Coould be the little rubber stopper that has fallen off? Quote
bluepanido Posted April 22, 2014 Author Posted April 22, 2014 Thanks for the replies everyone. Haven't ridden for a few weeks, but tightened the chain last night and it was back to normal today. Thanks for the advice. Quote
