cockercas Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 my mate lost his keys borght new ignition, seat lock and petrol lock. He didnt know that the keys needed programing to the ecu, fitted the igntion turned the key, fuel pump primed, abit of smoke come from the new ignition so he turned it off. Now nothing, obviously. So will it of damaged anything? Ecu etc Hes saying its a £1000 fix. Quote
Phooey Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Oooh does all keys need to be programmed to ECU then? I was thinking of getting a spare key for my ZZR Quote
cockercas Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 If its got a immobiliser it needs pairing with the ecu. Quote
Stu Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Sounds like his new ignition is screwed to be honest! What bike is it? There's not many that have to be programmed to the ecu Quote
cockercas Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 Gsxr600. K3.I googled it and it says it needed programing so the ecu recognises the key. My honda is the same. Quote
SprintyNige Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 A non programmed key shouldn't feck the ECU, just fail to work IMHO. However, a mis-wired ignition barrel could, but you'd have to try hard to do that if you bought one with the right plug/socket already attached.Puzzled Nige Quote
cockercas Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 Ive seen it and its got a plug on the end so its not wired in wrong. Quote
Stu Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 That means nothing! Wait a genuine one or aftermarket? It could be wired wrong to the plug Also a wire could have burnt out due to a bad connection Quote
cockercas Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 Not a clue, he said borght it of ebay but through a company. Quote
Joeman Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Once you let the smoke out, you can never get it back in... Quote
cockercas Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 Dam, must be the same smoke whats in cdi units then. Quote
