RantMachine Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Trying to get The Bike That Must Not Be Named (now affectionally named Voldemort, also fitting seeing as the GS has a ruddy great nose and the Lexmoto doesn't) into a state where it's fit to sell.Just bought one of the above named chargers, and am a little confused...If I connect the + wire to the + terminal as common sense would dictate to me and the pictures in the manual seem to show, the Polarity Protection LED comes on and the charging light does nowt. If I switch the connections around, the charging light comes on, the Polarity Protection stays off, and the battery makes the very quiet fizzing noise I'd expect it to.What do you reckon, just go with it? Certainly seems to be charging but it feels more than a little odd to have the cablesconnected up in what seems to me to be the wrong way round. Of course, I know nothing soit could just be my interpretation that's wrong. Quote
Tango Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Hmmm.....don't sound right Ollie......maybe take the charger back and get them to check it..... Quote
RantMachine Posted July 16, 2014 Author Posted July 16, 2014 Yeah, that was my general feeling Oh, for just one day where I try to do something to one of the bikes and it goes both smoothly and succesfully... Quote
Fozzie Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Weird...Usually connecting a charger to the wrong terminals causes lots of sparks and problems. But the charger might not pack enough juice!Connect it again and check the battery with a multi-meter.Could be the battery is so low it's expired and now won't accept charge off a charger. I've had that happen a few times. Quote
runningman Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Smart charger should tell you if you have the + and - connected the wrong way. The Optimate ones do anyway. Quote
RantMachine Posted July 16, 2014 Author Posted July 16, 2014 I'm going to go for the foolproof solution of returning it and going a few more weeks trying to put that bike out of my mind Quote
megawatt Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Try it on another good battery first. I have heard of faulty batteries reversing polarity. Don,t ask me how. Quote
