bluenose Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Hi,My wife would like to do her DAS, just wondered what peoples views were on her buying her own bike and doing her DAS on it? Quote
bluenose Posted August 8, 2014 Author Posted August 8, 2014 I would ride it down to the test centre. Quote
Guest Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I phoned round loads of insurance companies when preparing for mine, nobody would insure for the test... Quote
bluenose Posted August 8, 2014 Author Posted August 8, 2014 The idea would be for me to insure in my name and her as a named rider. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 you cant insure her as named driver as she hasnt got full licence Quote
Joeman Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Also, presume it will be her bike in her name with her as the primary rider, so insuring it with you as the main rider and her as just a named rider is insurance fraud... Quote
bluenose Posted August 10, 2014 Author Posted August 10, 2014 everything will be in my name, bike and insurance in my name with her as a named rider. already have quotes for insurance. the reason behind the idea is so we can ride it down to a car park so she can practice with it, so come the test she feels more happy. we are just looking to see if anyone else has done this, the idea came from raceways motorbikes. eastanglianbiker Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 unless you are undergoing training or the test then she HAS NOT got a licence to ride the bike on ANY public land at all and if the police came to see whats going on she can get done for riding without the correct licence for the bike which will also void the insurance and could result in you losing the bike and having it crushed and also getting done for knowingly allowing someone to use the bike who hasnt got correct test pass for it Quote
bluenose Posted August 10, 2014 Author Posted August 10, 2014 she wouldn't be riding on any public road she would be riding on a car park, which are PRIVATE and not PUBLIC and thats a fact, so she wouldn't need to have a full license to practice on a private car park. Also how can there be any insurance fraud when the insurance companies are willing to insure her with a CBT as a named rider for the purpose of doing her test on!!! As long as she doesn't ride on a public highway she is completely fine. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 it would be interesting to see where the law would stand on this one if the land is private you have no right to be on it unles with permission from land ownerbut anyway itss getting bit drawn out now good luck if you do go down this route and i hope she passes without any problems keep us informed of progress Quote
cockercas Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 If the public have accses the its public land. So if you go into a shop carpark that has a gate. Gates open between 6 and 6. You go between 6 and 6 police will do you for no licence. After 6 with permission your fine. Quote
Joeman Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 An offence to operate a vehicle in a public place without licence and at least third party insurance. The supermarket carpark is classed as a public place so she would be breaking the law.Edit:You'd best read this:https://www.gov.uk/using-the-road-159-t ... nd-the-law Quote
Glorian Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Gonna cost you more to do this than to just pay a company to use their bike. Also hassle. getting it there, getting it insured. Why bother? Paid £500 TOTAL for my DAS thats all tests 3 days training (1 for mod 1 2 for mod 2) and theory. aswell as bike rental and insurance. Quote
