Tiggie Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 change them and the entire bike for one of the big 4 Japanese makes, less hassle & will sell for what you buy it for 9 times out of 10 Quote
RantMachine Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Resident Lexmoto owner here - save yourself some misery and don't do it. While I won't write off my old bike completely, it needs a lot more love than a Japanese bike of the same cost and is just more trouble than it's worth as a first bike. Have a dig through some of my old posts (or the review of the Lowride 125) if you want to get a better idea. It's not just about the reliability of a Chinese bike, it's also the shoddy dealer service that tends to come with them. My bike did alright in the end, but only thanks to the support of some amazing forum members who bailed me out when the poop hit the fan. And it certainly caused me a lot of stress and misery along the way.I've warned enough people and been completely ignored to know that I can't tell someone not to get a bike they've set their heart on, but please don't get something that'll get in the way of your enjoyment of your first experience biking.Review of my Lexmoto:http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=84&t=47525 Quote

The only other sport bike I'd get is an NSR, not many good condition for the price I'm up for spending.I'm not too bothered about the minor reliability as I have a friend who can fix it up and I'd like to learn how to take care and repair myself. What do you mean your bike did alright in the end? What problems did you get? Was it minor or some major? Quote
RantMachine Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 It did the miles and got me to work and back most of the time. The design of the bike had a few oversights, the plastics around the forks cut into some of the cables and rain got into the solenoid and rusted it several times. The connector between the carb and engine split, the speedo stopped working, the front brake wore unevenly, the lid on the brake fluid reservoir jammed up, the bracket supporting two of the lights broke, some of the electrical components literally fell out of the bottom of the bike, it was pretty brutal on its chain, I had to oil it constantly to keep rust at bay in the winter (every few days), the service intervals were tiny (first service at 100km! And regular services every 3000km, the cost adds up rapidly). Plus the service from the dealership was crap, and when I contacted Lexmoto about it they just washed their hands of it. And when I sent them an email expressing my great concern at the standard of service their dealer provided, they forwarded the email to the dealer resulting in a big falling out and the dealer never returning my service book! So after all those ruddy services I paid for I still don't have a full service history and the warranty is potentially invalidated (for all the good it did me). Quote

That's brutal!I've heard on the XTR the light comes off, just need to put the wires back in.The chain is a definite change, people say change the lights to some car ones(can't remember which, h-something)The sprocket, tyres ( mixed reviews ) Rear sprocket bolts More just bit busy atm Quote
RantMachine Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Really gotta say though, hope you don't end up putting yourself through all this mate. Trust me I've seen other people choose not to heed my warning and they think it'll be different for them, and for a few months they're posting all the time singing the praises of the bike, and then it all starts to fall apart... Just ask Glorian about his once-beloved Sinnis. I warned him about that, just the same as people warned me about my Lexmoto. From what I can see, there are a few second hand CBR 125's out there going for the same sort of money as a new XTR... trust me, it'd be one of the best choices you ever make. Still nice and sporty but 100% less likely to bring you to your wits end... Quote
