Guest Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Hi. I'm not sure about all the correct terms etc but here goes.I have a xr 125 with 16000km on the clock. It has a kind of oil leak between the upper part of the engine and the lower part. what can cause this? how do i fix it (if possible) and does it damage my engine if i leave it like that? Quote
Fozzie Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Welcome to the forum, introduce yourself in the noobies area Sounds like a gasket leak, possible head gasket, if it's at the bottom of the cylinder it's the base gasket, if it's part way up it's the head gasket.Fairly cheap and easy to do given how simple the engines are but you need to be mechanically minded. A £5 gasket is probably all that is needed but you likely need a lot for labour if you don't do it yourself. Quote
Stu Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 could also just be the rocker cover gasket and its running down Quote
Guest Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 thanx guys! could it maby just be the "bolts" not tight enough? I guess if I open it up to have a look at the gasket I need to replace it anyway because I opened it up? Quote
Tango Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Welcome to TMBF mate....... Yeah.....if you split the engine you'll need to replace the gasket.....otherwise it will almost certainly leak..... Quote
