Comfortablynumb Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Sorry third thread complaining about my crappy headlight, since swapping it with a halogen its a little brighter but the high beam pattern is like mushroom shaped, which isn't helping anything. The low beam is fine. but the high beam has two pretty substantial dark spots. I'll try grab some pics when it's dark to demonstrate.Only thing I can think of is the little "cap" on the halogen, I know the light at the tip isn't meant to be useful but could that be it?There's no adjustment on the reflector besides physically angling the assembly up and down. fq-craigus Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 The reflector is up the right way isn't it? And bulb in correct way Quote
Comfortablynumb Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 There's only one way to put the bulb and reflector/front glass part in, i think, I haven't dissasembled the reflector from the glass as couldn't figure out how to seperate them. Quote
Comfortablynumb Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 Had a mess about and can confirm theres no way ive put the bulb/anything upside down. Tried my spare bulb (Same type) but still the same result.http://i59.tinypic.com/2r4oggn.jpghttp://i62.tinypic.com/swqm3q.jpgAlso i spotted this LED lamp on fleabay, could be worth a go?http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321418204620? ... Tango Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Hmmmm......looks like your headlight could do with coming up a bit if that's high beam.......but it also looks like your reflector or lens is a bit iffy......would have expected a bit more spread of light than that..... Not sure about the LED bulb.......could make things worse looking at it...... Quote
Comfortablynumb Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 It's hard to tell in the pics but there's a steep slope at the end of the drive that makes it look a bit closer than it is on the road but it probably does need lifting up a touch, it's a pita fiddling though.I'm pretty stumped on how to take the reflector apart to investigate Maybe a new headlight assembly, and switch to h4 while I'm at it then? Tango Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Yeah.....a new headlamp unit may be the answer...... Just out of interest, what make bulbs have you got in the current headlight? Quote
Comfortablynumb Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 Theyre the ring automotive ones, they are recommended and ive heard of others using them without this issue...Do you reckon i could drop in one of these?http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-7-H4- ... 4acb99b477Providing i can actually get the metal trim off the old lamp.Heres what my beams like on the road, pretty unnerving on unlit b roads.http://i58.tinypic.com/svtp8w.jpg Quote
Tango Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Yeah.....your beam pattern is pretty crepe....... That light unit on eBay looks pretty good.......the only prob you may have is the connector to the bulb......but it's fairly easy to swap over to the right one...... Quote
Comfortablynumb Posted October 18, 2014 Author Posted October 18, 2014 Didn't fit in the trim ring, gutted. Seems it's 6.25 or 6.5 inch rather than 7! Back to the drAwing board.. Quote
banditjohn Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Having had a quick look at your beam pattern it looks like the headlight is the wrong way up Is it fixed into the fairing should it have one or just the round head light unit Even if it's a round headlight they can normally only go one way as the adjusters are at the bottom of the unit and screws are offset to stop that happening The next step would be get another bike beside yours and see how the beam compares with that I'm sorry I can't be more help but it might give you some insight Quote
Comfortablynumb Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 Hiya it's the non faired model, there's no adjusters on the lamp other than the two bolts that attatch it to the bike. Have triple checked there's no way anything can be put in the wrong way Quote
Comfortablynumb Posted October 25, 2014 Author Posted October 25, 2014 Thought just occurred to me, there's a tiny reflector inside of the halogen, which way is it supposed to be directing the light? Quote
