KTM21 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I currently have a 140 tyre on a 3.5" rim that needs replacing but I don't really like the available tyres. I really want the Michelin pilot road 2's but they start at 150. Would a 150 tyre be okay on a 3.5" rim or would it be too big. Thanks Quote
Stu Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 150 what? the profile can decide if it will be ok or not http://www.mtsac.edu/~cliff/storage/gs/ ... _Chart.pdf Quote
Stu Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 according to that chart it should be ok to run although a 4.25 inch rim would be better! you will be pulling the tyre in and changing to profile slightly and could end up with less contact patch another thing to think about is clearance for the swingarm, hugger if fitted and chain Quote
KTM21 Posted February 14, 2015 Author Posted February 14, 2015 Ah I forgot about chain clearance. I'll have a look tomorrow. cheers Quote
Stu Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 you will be talking 20mm wider than stock at maximum so 10mm either side Quote
KTM21 Posted February 14, 2015 Author Posted February 14, 2015 Just had a quick look and the gap between the chain and the tyre is about 15mm so it should be okay but I'm worried that the profile will be messed up. Quote
Stu Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 if your worried then stick with the stock tyre! whats the reason for change? is it purely for availability Quote
KTM21 Posted February 14, 2015 Author Posted February 14, 2015 Yeah there so many more to choose from once you reach 150, it's annoying really. There's another Michelin tyre that's like the road 2 and I think that comes in 140 so I'll go with that. Cheers Quote
Stu Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 go for the pirelli rosso2 they are a good tyre and do your size front http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/motorbike-t ... 58w-223535rear http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/motorbike-t ... 63h-280205 Quote
