Glorian Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Right i know the bandits are plagued by problems but mine seems to have a lot.. Decided to take the exhaust silencer off, give it a clean and give myself some space to work on the rear brakes. So i took off the rear bolt, no problem. loosened the clamp near the collector box (it's a bit rusty around there..) then went to the front mounting bracket... There was no bolt there, odd, but the ehxuast moves so there is nothing hidden there just need to replace that i reckon.Tried for 10 minutes to then pull the silencer off to NO avail it just sat there. Not sure if it's me but it looks possibly welded together? Will upload a photo see what people think, but it's a tad annoying as i can't remove the blasted thing.Is it just me being weak or not pulling enough to actually get the exhaust loose?Edit : http://imgur.com/a/J6RSuProviding link works, there is 3 pictures of the exhaust system. Tango Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 The top pic is the link pipe.....and that looks like it's welded. The middle picture is the connection to the end can, but looking at the amount of rust there I'm not suprised you're struggling to get it apart......looks like it'll disintegrate if you give it too much welly.......I'd leave it alone if I were you and start getting the money together for a new exhaust system....... GazW Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Atf and acetone worked a treat on mine, soaked them overnight in the stuff.Didn't even need to disconnect the oil cooler.Read on the Internet about how bad the header bolts were, tried them dry with a socket set just in case I had gotten away with it or a previous owner had copperslipped them. Put as much pressure as I dared on and they wouldn't budge, I was aware of the engine having to come out and the studs be drilled out and the engine helicoiled if they went.Googled good penetrating fluids, almost settled on plusgas, until I found a few references to atf and acetone. A lad I work with used to have a automatic car and had some aft knocking about, £1:50 for some acetone and 2 spray bottles from the pound shop (acetone melts the seals) bladdered them over night, then the next morning they come out a piece of piss. Couldn't believe it, most things I try like that I read on the Internet are bollocks. I couldn't recommend it more. Just be aware they separate, so you need to shake it like mad before applying. Guest Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I just removed a bandit exhaust. WD40 on the manifold gaskets and bolts. Allen bolt attachments for a wrench. Job done. Why not just replace the silencer though? Delkavic for £140...? Quote
Fozzie Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Blandit exhausts are made of cheese at the collector. If the silencer came off I wouldn't be surprised if a chunk of the collector came with it I'd replace the lot! Quote
Glorian Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 Silencer won't come off, i disconnected all the bolts and no matter how hard i yanked (giggity) it wouldn't come off. As above it's falling apart and to buy the seperate parts costs me almost as much as a brand new system. So will do that and try sell mine on for £50-£100 see what i get.Cheers for the tips on removing will try some of those products. When you say soak it over night. Do you mean just spray some on and leave it untill the morning then try remove? Quote

Elgreco Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Recently replaced my header bolts on Bandit before they got too solid.Old ones wouldnt come out with allen socket.So bought some shock and release from Halfs.Started engine let them get hot then sprayed with shock and release , hit allen socket firmly home and eh voila came out no probs.New bolts went in with copperslip.
