Guest Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 So my bulb blew when changing from full beam to dipped, so I replaced the low beam (H7). I made sure not to touch the bulb when fitting it a few days ago.Today, I noticed the same bulb had blown!Any ideas why it keeps blowing? Quote
Chrissb6 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Hi, 4 ways of killing a new lamp, well maybe 5?! No1 touching the lamp with your fingers, grease from your skin will cause the lamp to over heat. you've covered that one!No2 Water on the lamp cracked lens poor fit of the rubber seal on the rear of the lampNo3 Vibration, loose fitment of lamp, or over or un tightened rubber headlight mounts No4 excess voltage. check the voltage at the lampNo5 Just plain unlucky and you've brought a dud.Cheap lamps are a pain, go for a quality branded replacement. Stu Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 6 bad reg/rec causing high voltage That could be covered in the high voltage one though to be fair One of the tell tale signs of a bad charging system is blowing bulbs or fuses Quote

Guest Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Ah yes, battery could be one.I accidentally ran it out and charged it up with a charger which was coincidentally nearby. Left it charging for about 10 mins and just about managed to start the bike up again. Since then, 2 bulbs have blown. Could this have been it?And does that mean new battery for me? Quote

If the battery shot the regulator thinks it got a flat battery to deal with and whacks out a high voltage charge to recover it, if the battery do's not take the charge and recover you then end up screwing the regulator and bulbs in your case. First get the battery tested if shot get it replaced as soon as, before you go and screw the regulator as well. Quote
Chrissb6 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Just a thought, just be sure your battery terminals are clean and tight. Quote
Guest Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Measured to be 12.75V (at the battery). Bike was last run yesterday at 1715.I do seem to think it's the battery since two bulbs have blown since I ran it out and charged it up again. Quote

No the bike was last run yesterday at 1715.When you say light switch, the dipped & side lights are always on. Quote
