Another European blast

Another cracking run through France, Belgium and Holland on Wednesday, then back home yesterday: Wageningen to Harrogate in 9 hours.

I accidentally removed a good portion of the right side chicken strip on my rear tyre after barrelling into a motorway exit slip rather too enthusiastically and finding that it tightened up considerably as it curved round. I figured that if nothing else, the further over I leant it the less distance I'd have to fall off, and it just sailed round effortlessly. As a learner I was told that the rider usually runs out of talent before the bike runs out of grip, and I'm getting better at trusting it not to dump me on my arse.

Then on the train back to the UK I was parked up behind a Jewish family from Belgium on their way to drop their son off in Manchester. All five of them (including a small baby) got out for a good look at the bike. Then the father started asking questions:

"How fast does it go?"

"Don't you get cold?"

"Is it noisy?"

"Is it scary on the motorway with all the lorries?"

Then he said "How much does it cost to insure?". "Not much" I said, "If you have an accident I don't think the insurance companies expect you to be around to make a claim." Once he'd finished laughing he said "Are you sure you're not Jewish? This is very much our sense of humour - you would make an excellent Jew." :D

Nice :thumb:. I would like to go touring at some point. Probably start with Scotland this year I've been told the roads are nice and very quiet.

Go for it! I've pretty much given up on flying to business meetings now, and just jump on the bike instead. I've not done much yet (Basel last October, and then a trip to Paris and two trips to Holland this year) but I'm loving it. You get to enjoy the journey rather than just the destination, and you're not beholden to airlines and check-in times. It's the only way to travel! :thumb:
