My front tyre needs replacing soon but I'm not happy with the make. The back still has a few thousand miles left on it. So, what are your thoughts about mixing tyres?

Many will disagree, but unless you ride like Rossi, as long as it is the same class of tyre, you won't have a problem in normal day to day use. Just make sure they are similar softness. I have don e it myself and bought various bikes with mixed tyres and never had an issue.

What you don't want is a hard tyre on the front and a soft on the back, you always want the back to go first if one has to go.

Totally agree.

Only thing I would suggest is make sure the better brand of tyre is on the front. Rear end slides are easier to control than front end slides and a better gripping rear might lull you into a false sense of security, but it's unlikely!

I had mixed tyres on my last bike and had no issue, pr2 on the back and bt016 on the front. I only did it because i changed to the pr2 for more longevity but the front was stillnice and healthy and planned to put the same on when it needed changing, i wouldnt go buy 2 different tyres at once how ever

Go for Michelin road pilot, and while I agree with what others have said I just don't see you really testing the tyre grip on your bike.
