Guest Posted May 15, 2015 Share Posted May 15, 2015 hi guy and ladies..my little sister messaged me yesterday, saying that her little scooter has suddenly gone all sluggish, after replacing the air filter box..i havent had chance to look at it for her yet, Thats why i thought id get some answer's on here first, In so, hoping it will be a simple fix straight away..Basically, she said she was cleaning her scooter, (pulse scout 50cc), and removed the air filter box from the carb..But now after replacing it (simply sliding it over the carb and tightening)the scooter has gone sluggish..it normally did around 45mph, and didnt really take very long to get there, but now, if she pulls her hand back from standing still, it goes, gets to about 15mph and then just loses power, and struggles to go faster..if she lets off the throttle a little, its fine, just when her hand is right back, which never had this problem before hand...seams a bit wierd to me, just from removing and re-installing the air filter box..she isnt clued up on technical side of things, but she sure knows the basics, especially how to undo a screw to remove an air box, and put it back on again..Like isaid, havent had chance to look at it yet for her.. So i thought id ask here, get some answers, saves me a bunch of time inspecting different things, as i really dont have much time on my hands just lately any ideas?? oldie59 Posted May 15, 2015 Share Posted May 15, 2015 First thing that comes to mind is that she has somehow caused an airleak and the engine is now running very weak, which will cause the lack of power as there isn't enough fuel getting through. She needs to recheck that the airbox is correctly connected and is not damaged in any way. hmm, i did ask her about her causing any damage to the rubber boot that connects to the carb, she says no, all she did was un-done the clamp that holds it on the carb, slid it off about 2cm, and left it sitting for about 30 seconds, and then put it back on and tightened the clamped..she said that she didnt have to squeeze it on or anything, i gently slipped back onto the carb...Im hoping to get some free time this morning, to have a look at it..like i said, if she eezes off the throttle for a short time, it goes okay... just can rip your hand right back anymore, like she used to be able to do.. Dav3y Posted May 15, 2015 Share Posted May 15, 2015 Is it possible the filter element could have got water on it and be starving the carb of air ?Does very much sound like a blockage rather than a leak to me. She simply disconnected the stock air box, (dont know why), then reconnected it up again about 30 seconds later, not touching the filter foam or anything inside.. My fella is excellent at braking stuff, he doesn't go near my bike aha.Probably worth cleaning the air box out and giving the foam a wash, crap does tend to gather in there and if she's taken if off could've shifted it. Guest Posted May 16, 2015 Share Posted May 16, 2015 finally got round to taking a look at it todayTurned out to be her completely removing the air filter foam. so causing it to run super lean..i questioned her about it, and thought she told me that she only disconnected it from the carb?didnt tell me she removed the filter foam itself..all i got was "oh yeah, forgot about that..popped up local motorbike shop, picked up a new foam, oiled it and stuck it in.. runs lovely...17 year olds ayy!!!!
