Jack5r Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I passed my mod 1 quite a while ago and so I have forgotten some of the basic points given by the instructor. I think I am doing them all right, but just wanted to confirm so I don't fail on friday! When moving off from the lights do you just have to check both mirrors or is it both mirrors and blind spots? If I am at the front of traffic at the lights and I am turning right or left do I stick to the middle of the lane so that no one can overtake me? I should only go to the side (tuning left) or middle (turning right) of the road on junctions where the lights are green or there are no lights? If there are three lanes going onto a roundabout and I am in the middle lane planning to go straight ahead (second exit), do I lifesaver to the left or the right just before I turn off into my exit? Normally it would be right, but given there may also be a car to my left..?Will I be marked down if I indicate on a roundabout before my lifesaver, rather than doing the lifesaver and then indicating? I have a habit of doing this. Thanks in advance. Quote
Samrana Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Ok, when light turns amber, mirrors then lifesaver both sides, if you are turning left or right you should already be in the left or right side of the road. Have u a lesson before the test??? Quote
Jack5r Posted May 20, 2015 Author Posted May 20, 2015 Yes.That is what I thought but for some reason I do remember the instructor telling me to stay centred at one point, so I have a dominant position in the road and no one comes up besides me. Maybe this was when I was going straight ahead..How about the roundabouts lifesavers? Quote
Samrana Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 No offence mate, I've just spent £950 on a bike to practice on to make sure I'm safe and know everything, also extra money on lessons, if you don't know the answers should you realy be doing the test???? Only thing I want to find out about is a traffic light in Shrewsbury. I'm sure this sounds crappy Quote
Jack5r Posted May 20, 2015 Author Posted May 20, 2015 I've been driving for a while and had no issues on my mod 1 or lessons. I am almost certain I have been doing everything correctly but I wanted clarity before doing the test. I'm just over thinking things, but wanted to be certain going into the test or I will mess up. Devans Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I've been riding 8 years and your questions have mind boggled me haha, i couldn't actually tell you what i do anymore, i just do it.Ermm, Always have command of your lane, and you only have to do a life saver to the right if turning right across on coming traffic, just to make sure no-ones there overtaking you or something stupid.Don't do lifesavers both sides unless your going that way because your taking your eyes of the road or some bollocks.Don't over think it and do what feels natural, if you fail you'll learn and have experience of what you did wrong etc.Took me 3 attempts to pass but did so with a clean sheet. I learned the hard way Quote

Only thing I want to find out about is a traffic light in Shrewsbury. I'm sure this sounds crappy I wasn't sure of a few things but most of that was cos I was over analysing stuff. But its better to ask these things and be as prepared as you can.To be honest I just rode in a safe but maybe not textbook manner and passed first time. Its normal to think things like signal, check? or check, signal? and try and ride like a robot but from my experience if you show you are aware and doing obs then they will see you as a safe rider and pass you.Just do what you think you need to do.Don't try and do fake obs because you think its needed. When I set off from lights I just did a quick left right shoulder and set off.Dont sit there ages doing mirror mirror shoulder shoulder I always indicated to show my intention and then a quick shoulder check. No need to shoulder check indicate shoulder check again.Maybe check mirror first.I cant tell you the correct textbook way to do things, just that the way I did things worked for me.
