  1. Ok will do! It still seems to be quite sensitive to flooding though does it not? I'm just looking around online and the technique people recommend if a bike does become flooded is to turn the choke off, open throttle wide and hold ON button down.
  2. Ok maybe that is the issue. From the video you can see on my last attempt I wait to twist the throttle and it works. Which could be the issue... but then why does it work 9/10 times with my usual ON bottom + throttle technique hmmm.. Here's the vid.. https://youtu.be/XhtUQEkq5yE
  3. Ok I'm making a youtube video so you guys can see what I mean. I just tried to start it and it didn't work. I then tried half choke and it still didn't work. Then no choke, still didn't work. Then back to full choke it it randomly worked! Vid should be up soon. Cheers for all the help lads!
  4. Yeah cheers, I am aware of this now. There is a chance it could be down to this but I really don't think so the last two times it hasn't started the engine was fully cold. I am going to be very careful and take note of exactly what I do each time I start the bike to see if I can pin point any slight difference it my technique. It does very much seem random atm though and not down to my own technique, which is highly frustrating as every time I go to start the bike I am praying ha. Could me pulling in the clutch as I start make a difference? Even if I could just find a way to start it after it hasn't started, rather than having to wait hours. It would be very helpful!
  5. I start it the same way every time. It just seems completely random. 1 in every 10-15 times it doesn't work. I start it with full choke yeah. When it starts normally I press the On button followed by a twist of the throttle and hear the engine rev loudly and then it idles, ticking over nicely at around 2rpm. When it doesn't start, I press the on button, hear the usual electrical sound you first hear when you press the on button, but then the engine does not rev! All I hear from this point is the sound the On bottom makes when you press it. A sort of electrical chuck chuck chuck sound.. No engine sound kicks in, as the twist of the throttle does nothing, no revs . Once this happens the bike is fecked for quite some time. I have to go back hours later and then it starts up again. I've been using the choke correctly now with no issues. Choke on full to start and first few mins then it idles nicely at 1rpm with no choke. The better never cuts out whilst I'm driving or sitting in traffic.
  6. I am still having issues. It wouldn't start last week and so I got a garage to come pick it up. Everyday of that week the mechanic started the bike with no issues. The garage thought it was due to the battery overcharing and so replaced a part which cost £70 and £50 for labour! It hasn't helped... I've got the bike back and started it 5 times with no issues, but then this morning it wouldn't start. I actually started it at 7:15 to make sure it was working, no issue. I then started it again at 7:30 with all my gear on. And it wouldn't start! I honestly can't afford to keep taking it to the garage so I am stuck with what to do. The last owner claims it is a new issue but I think he is lying.. It has been having this issue since I bought it. The bike has had a lot of previous owners as well so it may have been an issue for some time. What the hell could it be?
  7. Ok maybe it isn't that new, but it shouldn't be having problems starting in decent weather at this age.. Is having a 2003 model with a 2006 plate that strange? No it needs a choke to start unless I have just jumped back on it after already riding it. I was under the impression that hornets should always be started with the choke lever down. Yeah it felt fine with the choke lever down fully for that time.
  8. I recently bought a 2003 Hornet, with a 2006 reg and only 12k miles. If I use full choke and time a large blip of the throttle a second after I turn on the ignition it starts fine. However, this morning I tried to start it on half choke with less throttle (in a rush), and it idled for 2 seconds and then cut out. From then on I couldn't start the engine, even with full choke and a push start. This has happened twice now. The bike also only runs with half choke once warm. If I take choke off fully the bike will cut out. This doesn't seem acceptable for a fairly new bike. Any ideas? One of the reason I bought a Hornet is because I was told they are really reliable! After my Derbi GPR 125 I wanted a reliable machine.. Also, can I damage the bike if I start with full choke and then continue to ride for an hour with full choke, forgetting to lower it? I have done this a few times and so I am worried I may have damaged it?
  9. I've been driving for a while and had no issues on my mod 1 or lessons. I am almost certain I have been doing everything correctly but I wanted clarity before doing the test. I'm just over thinking things, but wanted to be certain going into the test or I will mess up.
  10. Yes. That is what I thought but for some reason I do remember the instructor telling me to stay centred at one point, so I have a dominant position in the road and no one comes up besides me. Maybe this was when I was going straight ahead.. How about the roundabouts lifesavers?
  11. I passed my mod 1 quite a while ago and so I have forgotten some of the basic points given by the instructor. I think I am doing them all right, but just wanted to confirm so I don't fail on friday! When moving off from the lights do you just have to check both mirrors or is it both mirrors and blind spots? If I am at the front of traffic at the lights and I am turning right or left do I stick to the middle of the lane so that no one can overtake me? I should only go to the side (tuning left) or middle (turning right) of the road on junctions where the lights are green or there are no lights? If there are three lanes going onto a roundabout and I am in the middle lane planning to go straight ahead (second exit), do I lifesaver to the left or the right just before I turn off into my exit? Normally it would be right, but given there may also be a car to my left..? Will I be marked down if I indicate on a roundabout before my lifesaver, rather than doing the lifesaver and then indicating? I have a habit of doing this. Thanks in advance.
  12. Interesting. How was this sent? It needs to be here by thursday.. Was it something they sent via email?
  13. Yeah I would be on to them now if I wasn't waiting by the house phone for a call back from the police, my insurance company and my phone provider!
  14. Is there any way to get a fast tracked license card? As in drive down to head office and have it made and picked up on the spot? I can't afford to rebook the test now.. ahhh
  15. My phone and wallet were stolen today, which contained my license. I have my Mod 2 on thursday. I am hoping they will accept all my paper certificates and a photocopy of the provisional driving licence that I have? Will they? My next question was, do I need to send of for a new license once I have passed. If so I might as well wait until after I have passed.

    Broken speedo

I stupidly drove off with a D lock still attached to the front wheel. No damage was done to the front brake, but now the speedo has stopped working. No speed, no milage counter. I drive a Derbi GPR 125. Any idea how it could have damaged the speedo or possible easy fixes? If not how much am I looking at to get it fixed? Another thing I've noticed is only my front right light is on. I can switch it to the left side pressing a button so it isn't broken, but I cannot make it so both lights shine together. Why is this? Thank you for your help in advance.
  17. Second day on bike. Absolute noob. Bike cuts out at lights. Manage to get it going again for another 15 metres or so and park safely. Ignition works but throttle gives nothing so I assumed it wasn't the battery. Call a friend and he says my fuel must of run out. I check tank with a torch on my phone and it looks empty, but with no warning light on my screen! I get talking to a guy at the side of the road who has very kindly offers me some petrol. I pour the the petrol in and he shouts 'Stop!, it's leaking'. So we look below and sure enough petrol is leaking from a tube coming from the tank (i think). We look around a bit and find another tube which is slightly thinner in diameter. We then spend 10 mins trying to shove the thinner tube into the thicker one. The throttle now works! So we tape it up with some cello tape from the shop opposite (lol). 10 minute drive home. On closer inspection this morning I then find that the other end of the thin tube is now disconnected, probably from me pulling on it to push it into the thicker one. So I have no idea how I managed to get home? Maybe it disconnected right at the end of my journey. Anyway they are both reattach but just through force and tape. I'm going to take them to a garage to get some proper clips to hold them in place. Any other advice? It's a 2011 Derbi GPR 125 btw, with only 3000 miles.
  18. I went and tired on this pair of kevlar jeans and really wanted to buy them, but the knee pads and double kevlar lining were too low for my short legs. I'm set on getting this pair though as all the others had a horrible fit. Is there a way I can sew a pocket into the Cordura to put the knee pads in? Or attach them some other way..? They just need to be in the right place upon initial impact. http://www.urbanrider.co.uk/revit-lomba ... -blue.html
  19. Are these any good? Do the damage the leather at all. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Collonil-Waters ... B001O5O4L6 I want to use with my jacket and suede boots.
  20. I passed my cbt today, have bought my gear and have only got to buy my bike and I'm off! My mum has realised I am very serious about this now and so has offered (or should I say forced) to pay for some 1 to 1 lesson to make me a safer drive. I haven't seen any general driving lessons advertised anyway yet. Do places do it and how much am I looking to pay for an hour or day?
  21. Cheers. My mum has now realised I really am going for this and will bike a bike as soon a I find a good deal, so she has offered to pay for some extra 1 to 1 lessons to make me a safer driver.
  22. PASSED!! One hour of Driving round in circles really did help. I was able to work out how much break, clutch and throttle was needed for each move. The road was a little scary at first as we came to a round about straight away and I have never even cycled in one before! Bad points - my sense isn't good. I was unsure who had right of way at times and what road markings were saying having never used them before on my bicycle. Also sometimes I went into neutral instead of 2nd and that horrible sound!
