Thread title is the wonderful advice my crappy GP has been giving me every time I've seen them about my knee since an idiot in a cage squished my bike three months ago! Today I finally got to see the physio appointed by my insurers; she says it looks like I've been hobbling around on a torn hamstring, hamstring muscle, and medial ligament for the last three months. The tearing feeling inside my knee is scar tissue ripping apart over and over again

I am yet to have a positive experience with a GP, strongly considering giving Bupa a go (not that I can afford to...)

Are you in a union with work at all? A lot of them provide medical care as a standard extra.

If not, I'm not sure if you can do it everywhere, but here you can self refer to a number of specialised NHS clinics. Get referred to a physio rather than seeing your GP and they should be able to diagnose you and see what you need.

Since it is an injury from an accident however, you should be claiming medical expenses from the insurance company as far as I can tell.

get a different GP or a second opinion. your physio diagnosed you better than him/her.

Put your bad experience with your GP surgery on the NHS website feedback for your surgery. They should all be listed on there and if anyone at the surgery is on their game they might follow the feedback up properly.

Never trust anyone with the word General in their job title.

It means they try to do lots of things but have no real skills in any.

Once you get an admittance of liability from the other side, they (the third party) are obliged to mitigate their losses and pay for any private medical treatment in order to try and speed up your recovery process.

Cheers for that TC, thankfully I'm already at that stage. The injury lawyer my insurers referred me to got me to wait a month before a medical assessment, and then the physio company he passed me on to dragged their heels a bit more, and didn't have any appointments available for a month or so, and now the physio has finally started. So I should be in good hands now, but I'm certainly not impressed with the lack of care shown by my GP while I was visiting him during the wait. Every time I've ever visited the place (for this or anything else) they just seem to want to fob you off so they can get you back out the door as quick as you came in

Change your GP. I speak from experience!

For years, I was with a GP who was as awful as you describe.

Then, I sold up, moved town and bought a house with XmrsIS, and changed GP - the new ones are so good - they bend over backwards to help you!

We chose them based on their website - what came across was their positive attitude.

I'd recommend visiting a few surgeries and changing to one that has a good attitude.

Admittedly, I moved from a rural town to an inner-city and I think city GPs are more on the ball than those in Hicksville.

I wish ibuprofen would work for me. I am off work with my annual cluster headaches and the only thing that works is diazepam to try and knock me out. The pain itself has proved to be untreatable.
