Craig 8150 Posted August 15, 2015 Author Posted August 15, 2015 HAHA what a fascinating thread this has turned out to be ! I shall be coating my tank this weekend ! One question , my two fuel lines ? Do I remove or leave in and seal the inlet somehow ? I would remove then seal the tank holes but wondering about the resin filling the thread itself and not being able to screw them back in ! Quote
Craig 8150 Posted August 15, 2015 Author Posted August 15, 2015 I will use the super unleaded myself as this will be more akin (purer) to the old four star therefore a petrol with less 'additives' . Quote
Mr Fro Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 I agree Bob. As much as I'm enjoying the back and forth with Kevin, this has galloped way off course. One question , my two fuel lines ? Do I remove or leave in and seal the inlet somehow ? I would remove then seal the tank holes but wondering about the resin filling the thread itself and not being able to screw them back in !Tricky - you could bung something through the outlet - bit of stainless rod or something and hoik it back out once the resin has started to go off or you could take them out and re-tap the threads once it's fully cured. Hard to say without having a shufti. Quote
Guest Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 I will use the super unleaded myself as this will be more akin (purer) to the old four star therefore a petrol with less 'additives' . I would also drain the tank if its going to be stood for a while. I'm not talking a month or so. but if laying it up over winter then I would. I do this for my BMW if i am taking it off the road. I also dry the tank out as its a known issue with BMW tanks rotting due to a small amount of fuel laying below the petrol taps ( i know you have a fibreglass tank) but It may help the tank liner last longer when you do it. motomarino Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Go and buy a steel tank, lead-load any dents and file down - get new paint in original or something fancy if you wish - should cost no more than £200 to complete - and you have a new looking bike again! Quote
