mole81 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 In a nutshell I dropped bike a few days ago and snapped front brake lever. I've fitted replacement now and it's very stiff though does work. Gs500 bike if useful to know! Have I killed it? Dropped it at a standstill and mo obvious damage I can see! Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 sounds like the new lever is tight in its mounting did you grease up the pivot bolt that hold it in and also a little bit of grease on the sides sometimes helps or if its a pattern lever it might just need the sides filing down slightly if its the actual lever thats stiff in operation Quote
mole81 Posted October 23, 2015 Author Posted October 23, 2015 I didn't grease it... The action isn't stiff there's just no free play before braking starts if that makes sense? Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 then maybe the foot on the lever t hat touches the brake pushrod needs filing back slightly if a pattern lever Quote
mole81 Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 Ah OK is this normal on pattern then? Quote
Tango Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 It can be, mate......and can also end with the brake seizing on when it gets hot.......ask Joeman....... Quote
mole81 Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 Oh feck, am concerned now! What should I do? Lol Quote
Tango Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 I'd look at fitting a better lever........or maybe Joeman will be along soon and tell you what he did to fix it....... Quote
mole81 Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 OK will take it across to where I bought it! Quote
Tango Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Have a read of this thread..... viewtopic.php?f=3&t=56594&hilit=New+levers&start=15 Quote
mole81 Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 Thanks... They're from genuine factor place so would hope they are OK, gonna get them checked either way though! Quote
Tango Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Like Joe found, just check that the plunger on the master cylinder is located correctly in the recess on the lever if it has one...... Quote
mole81 Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 Took it to the guy who ordered it for me and he thinks the piece that touches the cylinder is probably slightly longer hence no travel, he Seems to think no problem and it works OK! Pretty much what eastanglianbiker said Quote
