Guest Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 Hello,I'm thinking about doing my CBT in the next couple of months.I have a full UK driving licence, do I need to book a theory test for this then do the CBT. I'll most likely book up with Ride on.I live in the south side of Glasgow not in the best of areas but will be looking to buy a house in the next 12 months. I'm just unsure how safe my bike would be over night parked on the street at my flat and what is peoples experiences in this respect with higher chance of theft or bike damage?Should I be looking at just buying a bike and doing the CBT after I've moved? Thanks Quote
Arwen Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 You can do the CBT without doing the theory test first. But it helps if you read over the highway code before your CBT. As you will get questioned about it. Is there any way you could get a bike around the back of your house, out of sight of the road? If not then look for lampposts, railing or other street furniture that you could attach your bike too with a decent chain and padlock. I fully recommend the motorcycle chains and padlocks from hereYou could also do some dummy insurance quotes online to give you an idea how much it would cost. Quote
Hoggs Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 I concur with all of the above Are there any other bikes on the road? Safety in numbers! You should also consider weather as if it gets really windy there is a small chance of the bike blowing over (especially a lighter 125) Quote
Guest Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 Thanks for the replies.I've not seen any bikes about the area hence why I'm so unsure about it. I've had some idiot key all the cars in the street before and a crack on my wind-shield from a stone...It's a good idea to get a bike as I'd use it every day for commuting and save money on parking! Could be saving on parking alone £100 per month...I'd be 100% looking at buying Chains and padlocks when I get a bike!So in regards to driving a 125cc all I need is my CBT then I'm good for the road? Hoggs Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 Yup just the CBT which is valid for 2 years so if you didn't do your big test in that time you'd need to do it again Quote
Arwen Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 Yup, CBT is all, and some L plates on the bike That's what I've been doing. Really need to get around to booking my Mod 2, but these strikes by the examiners are putting me off. I've heard some mixed reviews about Ride On in Glasgow, but they do seem to be getting better.
