MR_W Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 One of my favourite rock personalities. He played the game well. RIP Quote
MarkW Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 No mention of me on the BBC news page as another infamous bass player who went to Madeley High School. Honestly, the standard of reporting these days... Quote
Gavalar Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Not forgetting his days with Hawkwind. Great personality. Straight talkin. Quote
Tango Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Not forgetting his days with Hawkwind. Great personality. Straight talkin.Yep.....I first became aware of Lemmy when I heard Orgone Accumulator off Hawkwind's Space Ritual album 40 years ago......and I still enjoy listening to it now! Anyway.....I feel that music has just lost one of the greats.....A great bassist, a great songwriter and lyricist, a larger than life character and a thinker....I would say RIP, but I can't see him doing that.... eastanglianbiker Posted December 29, 2015 Author Posted December 29, 2015 seems to be a sad day in the music world as it was also announced earlier today that the drummer from the specials john bradbury also passed away aged 62 Quote
Tango Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 And Phil (Philthy animal) Taylor passed away not long ago too..... Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted December 29, 2015 Author Posted December 29, 2015 i didnt realise untill i read about lemmie today that he was 70 shows we are all getting older as more and more musicians we know of pass away Quote
Tango Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Yeah, his birthday was Christmas eve I think.True though Steve.....they're starting to drop like flies..... Quote
Guest Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I remember a non descript twerp interviewing Lemmie for something like Nationwide with the question;"Why is it so loud?"Answers Lemmie "Because I am not having anyone talking about the price of cabbage in Tesco whilst my music is on"There may have been one or two other words to add emphasis.. Guest Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Given his lifestyle to make it to 70 is in itself some kind of achievement. But to die just 2 days after you've found out you have cancer is really tragic. No time for anything.. least of all goodbyes.."I didn’t have a really important life, but at least it’s been funny." Quote
Tango Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 He wasn't too well for a year or 2.......Motorhead had to cancel a few gigs about a year ago...... From what I've seen on FB it seems that he had his family with him when he went.I know his music isn't everyone's cup of tea......but at least his songs had something to say, unlike some of the inane sh*t that's around at the moment!!I'm quite saddened by his death......been a Motorhead fan since they started out......and Hawkwind before that..... eastanglianbiker Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 same here tango liked them since they started and even saw hawkwind live, and also like it when they teamed up with girlschool back in the early days Quote
Tango Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 I saw Motorhead a few times at the Cambridge Corn Exchange in recent years....... And they had Girlschool as support one year, Steve...... Quote
Guest Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 I saw them on the Bomber tour with girl school as support. They weren't as loud as The Ramones who I saw at around the same time. They used Phil spectres wall of sound and my ears buzzed for 3 days after that gig. Van Halen supported the Ramones as they were an unknown band at the time Quote
