MrBrightside Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Anyone ever tried VR? I just bought a gear VR headset for my S7, and I got to admit, it was one of those 'blown away' moments for me. Considering this is running off a mobile phone, it's jaw dropping. If anyone has a galaxy s6 upwards, or galaxy note 5, I'd totally recommend it. Best £70 on tech in ages.Oculus software, Samsung hardware.I can only imagine the Oculus Rift being so much better. This is surely the way ahead... Quote
JoshTimmins Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 We have a couple sets here at work. one of the departments here develop models of buildings that you can 'walk around' and it is impressive. (I work for a company that has a consultancy department for leading architects that use them) but they are ridiculously expensive. I would be intrigued to see the quality of the ones you have, I have only heard good things about them.A few of my mates also did VR game testing for a company, and they were all blown away. Although all of them said after a short period of time it gives you the feeling of motion sickness, if they can fix that (it may be a case of getting use to it) then the VR gaming world would take off even more. MrBrightside Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 The overall resolution isn't great, but good for such a device, but it's the sheer sense of scale it brings, and how immersive it genuinely makes you feel. Honestly, I couldn't recommend one enough if you have a compatible phone! Quote
Arwen Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I've played around with Google Cardboard and found it pretty good. Problem with me is that I have odd eyes (one long slighted and one short sighted) so 3D like this gives me a major headache! Quote
Gin Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Went to a gaming bar in Cornwall that had an Occulus for people to try. Like you I was blown away by it.. I don't think I was expecting a lot but it's unbelievably immersive! I tried a few games but the 'Experience' that's always stayed with me was a simple rollercoaster simulation. I was sitting on a bar stool, with this ridiculous headset on and he started the video; which was little more than roller coaster tycoon graphics.. However that didn't stop my stomach from flipping as it went over the peak! I KNEW that I was sitting in a bar by the beach with a daft looking devise on my head and yet my body was fooled into thinking it was on a theme park ride! I tried to do the horror maze and couldn't even leave the first corridor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2QK3ibLoRsHonestly can't wait for more games.. If anyones seen Sword Art Online.. That Premise looks epic! (Though I did get a little addicted to WoW way back in the day)On another note, Pokemon go also looks awesome.. Quote
al_stu Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 saw these advertised - 'buy an S7 get the headset free etc', I didnt think it was worth it yet, but will be interesting to see if/when its developed beyond a few gimmicks and becomes a widely supported gaming device! Quote
MrBrightside Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 I was feeling woozy after the blue angels flight!I have this thing called Ocean Rift which puts you underwater, with Dolphins, great white (scary), reef sharks, killer whales, sea lions etc etc even sea dinosaur thingies. It's just f**king jaw dropping when a huge orca comes past you from behind and you wasn't expecting it. It's by far the best £70 I've spent in years. Quote
Gin Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Sounds awesome! I can't wait for this to be the next "Norm" in gaming Even my 3DS at the moment, tiny though it is, is a great step forwards for games.. Not the greatest video to show off the idea, but gamers would suddenly become extreamly fit, rather than the couch potato stereotype!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=673LJCsRQi4 Quote

EthanKing Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I won't be going near VR until the prices drop. Not sure if it's going to take off this time, but it does look like a huge advancement in VR Quote
