Guest Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Hey everyone, I have been riding a year now on my own PCX125, I only really use it for commuting to work and shopping but I love riding this bike it is just perfect for my needs. However I am 31 years old and I have no idea what I need to do next as I don't want to keep taking my CBT every two years. What course or modules do I need to do to keep riding on my motorcycle? I have been googling a lot but I can't find any information on what engine size the bike you need to use for the DATC or if you have to pass on a geared bike?I would like to just ride up to 125cc and not have to do my training every 2 years if that is possible.I do have anxiety issues which have plagued me throughout my whole adult life, I have tried to learn clutch control and gears on a motorcycle and in a car and I just couldn't get it done, but I have successfully passed my CBT and my driving test with automatics, I feel much safer for myself and towards others, in control and more aware. Many thanks Quote
nicklucey Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Theory testMod 1- on a car park around conesMod 2 - on the road testI would find a school that does individual lessons rather than multi day packages, and have a chat with them about what you want to do, you can take your test on a 125, but will only be qualified to ride a 125.If you think you might want to ride something bigger later, it's worth doing your test on a bigger bike. Personally i feel safer on the bigger bikes. If you really only want to ride a 125 though, you might find that the cost of doing your training and test might pay for your cbt's for the next ten years, its not cheap Quote
Stu Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 If you do take your tests make sure you do the DAS and not the restricted test you might only be riding a 125 now but you never know in the future and the tests cost the same! Quote
Valko Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 you can prepare yourself, you need to do:TheoryMod 1 - you need this diagram to put the cones https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/motorcycle-manoeuvring-area-diagrams" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Mod 2https://www.gov.uk/driving-test-cost" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; If you pass on your PCX they will give you A1 automatic license, means you cannot ride gears or bigger then 125cc. someone Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 I would like to just ride up to 125cc and not have to do my training every 2 years if that is possible. You can take the A1 test on any bike that you can legally ride on a CBT.That level will only then allows you to ride up to 125cc, and if you take the test on an automatic then (unlike the CBT) it only allows you to ride automatics. But you will then be allowed on motorways, to take passengers, and not have to renew anything. As you can use your own bike, if you feel comfortable enough you can just book the tests directly and use that. As it only costs the same as a CBT (assuming you pass both parts first time) it will give you what you want without being too expensive should you want to upgrade your licence later. Quote
