Peaches Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 As we all know, if you want to learn to drive a car you book driving lessons. My question is this : are there such lessons available if you want to learn to ride a bike properly? Or is it just straight into the CBT? I personally feel I'd benefit greatly from some thorough lessons BEFORE doing the CBT. For me, CBT is executed at break neck speed, and I feel i need more time. I want to know exactly what I'm doing before I get let loose on the roads.I'm in the Glasgow/ Renfrewshire area. Is there anyone who can teach me? Recommendations greatly appreciated Quote
Arwen Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 CBT is your basic training. If you want training to ride more competently, most schools will give you more lessons after your CBT if you want, on or off the road. Talk to some achool around you and explain your concerns.Good schools will not rush you. Some may also do one to ones, although these are few and far between. Quote
bonio Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Talk to some schools around you and explain your concerns. This is really good advice. There's one school where my missus went where they offer pre-CBT training, for people who wanted to go at it a bit more slowly. Other schools might be willing to do something like similar if you ask. Lozzableu Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I don't live in Glasgow however i have my CBT booked for next month and felt the same as you. I did a few google searches and found a school near me that do something called "icebreaker" sessions or taster sessions. Its basically what you're looking for. Was an hour session and trainer went through all bits with me on the bike. Im sure youd have something similar close to you, have a quick mosey on google Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk Quote
Peaches Posted August 14, 2016 Author Posted August 14, 2016 Icebreaker sounds excellent! Thanks. I have found something similar. Quote
someone Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 I had to retake my CBT earlier this year and it was just me and a person having their third "lesson" that week as they were not ready to go on the road. If you find a good instructor they can give you all the time and attention you need. That said, it is probably best just doing a CBT first as you will not be allowed on the road unless ready, and that way you will know where you need help if necessary. Originally I could not do the U-turns, but the school I used booked me to come back as they said I will get it. The problem was the breakneck speed you mention as it meant there was no time to think anything through properly on the day. But I was able to work it all out in my own time and it was all very straightforward when I returned. Quote
