Generalforde Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Hello all, just wondering if people had any ideas when it comes to carrying lock chains and heavy stuff on a sports bike.I've got a Yamaha R1 and don't believe in fair weather riding so I use it all the time for commutes as well as for pleasure. Obviously the locks I have for the bike are heavy! A backpack tears my back muscles up and a tail bag unbalances the bike too much... It just doesn't sit right.Anyone got any other ideas what they do and use? Quote
Tango Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 An old work colleague bought a secondhand pillion seat pad for his bike and screwed a topbox base to it so he could put a topbox on there. When he wasn't needing the topbox, he just swapped the pillion seat pad over to the original...... BTW....Welcome to TMBF mate. ......pop over to the Newbies section and introduce yourself to the guys when you can. ...... Quote
Generalforde Posted August 20, 2016 Author Posted August 20, 2016 Thank you Tango, I don't have a pillion seat either it's such a sticky situation! That's my R1 I'll pass through the Newbie section now and say hello. Quote
Tango Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Hmmmmm. ....I see your dilemma. Have you tried a tailpack with some of that non-slip matting stuff underneath? I use a Kreiga Tailpack on the back of my Speedy, but also have to put some non-slip matting underneath to stop it sliding about on the back of the bike...... Quote
Generalforde Posted August 20, 2016 Author Posted August 20, 2016 I'll give that a go.... I've got an Oxford tail pack at the moment and I've got to bungee tie it down but that's a good idea... Will save the paint too Quote
MR_W Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 The Oxford mats are bloody grippy. Protects the paint too.Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk Quote
Tango Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Yeah, I've used the non-slip matting under a tankbag on an old bike previously, mainly to protect the paintwork. ......It worked well...... Quote
Generalforde Posted August 20, 2016 Author Posted August 20, 2016 Brilliant I'll give that a try, I've just ordered some of the Oxford blankets Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
