I want to wash my RST jacket and trousers. RST recommend removing the armour prior to washing but the Alpha III jeans do not appear to have removal armour. I have turned them inside out and unless I'm being incredibly stupid, I cannot find a velcro pocket that houses the armour. I am in contact with RST but replies are rather slow.

Anyone have experience of these?

they're described as 'entry level' and so its not beyond the realms of possibility for the armour to be sewn in place.. if there is no pocket access either inside or outside then thats that.

I have washed my textiles with the armour in.. but only on a very gentle 40c cycle and without using detergent. so.. the cleaning action is from friction/agitation. it works well on everything except oil. and thats good enough for me.

The biggest pain is the drying.. this can take a few days. I would only use a gentle spin and then hang them outside for a day to allow any water to drip free.. then bring them inside and hang them in a doorway and allow them to air dry. this can take a while. (depending on the material). I think using a tumbler is a definite no-no.

all this for the outside layers.. a removable thermal layer can be treated like any garment. washed at 40c with detergent.

To gain maximum performance of the proofer I have you are supposed to tumble dry on a medium heat for 30 - 50 mins!

Obviously if the textiles allow it of course

So bit of a catch 22 there for me

On the RST support page they say hand wash only and do not tumble dry. Probably not the best time of year to wash them if they take so long to dry!
