GroundWorkerb Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Hello people.I have a 98/99 Yamaha Fazer 600 it came as a non runner and having stood a while. I have noticed that the throttle will not open and I am assuming that this maybe due to it's inactivity; it's not the twist grip or the cable, they are free. I am in the process of removing the carbs to clean them and have noticed the electronic unit on the right hand carb which runs in line with the butterfly spindle. I am wondering if this unit has any bearing on the movement of the throttle. Any thoughts on this will be welcome. This is my first venture into relatively modern machinery I have mostly been brought up on the old British classics, so I am on unfamiliar ground with most things Japanese. Thanks in advance Quote
ThePhatomfart Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Hi, that will be your Throttle Position Sensor, have you got any Service Manuals Quote
mattycoops43 Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 I had one of these, fantastic bikes! They have heating water running through the carbs, if there is a leak, that would make the spindle seize up. Best bet, get them off, soak them all in wd40 or similar, then strip them down and clean everything., DO NOT separate the carbs from each other, top and bottoms off, all the brass jets out, cleaned with carb cleaner and replaced, spray carb cleaner through the holes while they are out. Check float heights. Manual is golden. Quote
mattycoops43 Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Sorry, if you are used to brit stuff, you know how to do this. Only issue on mine was carb top/bottom screws seized up, need a decent screwdriver pref jis. Quote

Thanks for all the advice Matty, I've been around bikes for ever but this is a learning curve for me, I am enjoying it though. I have seen some comments about the Japanese screwdriver bits, I must get some. Quote
GroundWorkerb Posted December 14, 2016 Author Posted December 14, 2016 Hi all, Just like to say thanks for the warm welcome on here, and all the advice and help offered. Maybe if someone out there has an antiquated old British bike, say from around the late 50s and they need help............................I could return the favour. Quote
GroundWorkerb Posted January 3, 2017 Author Posted January 3, 2017 Hello to all on here and late seasons greeting for Christmas and all the best for the New Year. Not been on here for a while, other things have kept me busy and of course the Christmas holiday.Anyway, thanks again to all those people who pointed me in the right direction regarding the carburettors on my 600 Fazer. I now have them off the engine and have discovered that the reason the butterflies were not working/opening was because the whole set of carbs were jammed tight with what look like some kind of glue. Nothing was moving at all the fuel needles were stuck in the main jets and the fuel float needles were solid. I am getting it resolved with a can of carb cleaner and meticulously cleaning thoroughly. I guess the bike had been standing a bit longer than I had imagined.Hopefully the bike will soon be ready to fire up and if this proves a problem I will be back to ask why……. Quote
