stevej74 Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Hi folks, I'm hoping someone on here can help my son out regarding his XT125X. I bought him a 2010 XT for his Xmas and was told by the previous owner that it has some sort of warming device in the carb instead of a choke............. first question is was he extracting urine or was this genuinely fitted to this bike? I have very little experience with bikes but what experience I do have, they have always had a choke. The reason I ask is the bike is terrible to start from cold, usually about 10-15 minutes on the kick start! Once its running and up to temperature it runs perfect and will then start on the button first time until left to cool down then its back to a right leg workout next time he tries to use it. If this is right enough and they tried out this device has anyone had any experience of fitting a choke to replace it? Any advice would be appreciated Quote
Stu Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Hi and welcome to the forum A tell tale sign of an auto choke is that the bike will rev higher when cold then settle down as it warms up Quote
Tango Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Welcome to TMBF mate. . . . . pop over to the Newbies section and introduce yourself to the guys when you can. ...... Is the bike carbed or injection? Sounds to me like there's likely to be a choke on there somewhere. .....just a matter of finding it....... Spanner may be the man to point you in the direction of an owners manual for the bike.....that'll show you how to start from cold for sure...... Quote
stevej74 Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 Thanks for the replies guys! He is out on it just now so can't check anything but from what limited knowledge I have it is carbed and there is what looks like should be a connection for a choke cable coming off the front of the carb but there is no cable attached and there is no lever on the bars. I have just spoken to him and he says it does idle higher when cold and then settles down after a short while. If there is an auto choke can this be bypassed and a manual one fitted or is it likely that it just needs a bit of tweaking? Sorry if this is all very vague but bikes are not my strong point lol Quote
