robkblue Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 I went for a test ride on a 1994 KLR250 today. The bike is in reasonably good condition and the engine and gearbox seem pretty tight. The only real issue is that the bike stalls without choke so the carby clearly needs some attention. It runs fine on or off choke under power and normal riding conditions, just not at idle without choke. I only test rode it for about 10 mins, but I am pretty sure that was enough time for the engine to be at running temperature.Any comments appreciated. Quote
Guest Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 Carb clean and adjustment of the pilot screw and idle speed would probably sort it. Has it been modified or 'tuned' in any way? Quote
robkblue Posted May 25, 2018 Author Posted May 25, 2018 No, not that I know off. I don't get the sense that the current owner is that way inclined, but you never know. Quote
TimR Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 Before removing carb etc Simple things first ..Locate the idle speed adjustment screw and try raising the idle speed Quote
TimR Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 Is an image found online Hopefully it matches up with your bike Adjust idle speed screw Quote
Guest Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 I would say the same increase idle speed Yeah, definitely the first port of call. I don't know why I didn't suggest that in the first place - doh!Just make sure its set to sleep at the speed dictated by the service manual, if it won't idle at that then theres another issue needing fixed.
