Shadow125 Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 When we got our first bike a Kawasaki Eliminator I registered it in my name, insured and taxed it. All is well My wife then passes her CBT, gets insured and rides it as was always the plan as it’s actually her bike. I pass full licence and get a big bike, update my policy and remover the Kawasaki. My question, the bike is in my name and taxed by me but not insured. The mrs has the only policy on it but not the tax. My understanding is, It does not matter who owns the bike but I am unsure about the tax situation. The registered keeper could be changed but I don’t think is necessary, but does it matter who taxed it? Quote
dynax Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 I would transfer it into your wife's name, would save any future headaches Quote
xMachina Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 Nope, doesn't matter at all. I did this when they changed the rules about tax as I 'bought' a car off my wife and it had 3 months left - to save refunding and retaxing I left it in her name.As long as the insurance company are aware that the insured isn't the registered keeper but is the legal owner (this made no difference to the cost of the insurance) there is no issue at all. The registered keeper is just who is responsible for the vehicle in law, the only issue that could arise is if she got a fine and refused to say she was driving/riding then you as registered keeper would be liable. Stu Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 As long as you tell the insurers that's its not actually registered in her name nothing else really mattersWhat me and tge wife did when we had one car was take in turns to insure it we was both on the policy and just told them who was the registered keeper This might be a better way to go put the policy in her name with you as a named rider and you as the keeper Quote
