JRH Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 Nice 130 mile trip taking in Shipston Burford Lechlade highworth the A420 to Oxford off at Kiddlington Banbury quick look at Burton Dasset hills. Quote
fastbob Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 Crikey I'm getting old . I can remember when the rotting timbers that used to be the sails of the windmill were lying at the foot of that stone structure . The stone thing was , I believe , built from the foundations of the windmill as a " Feature " . And now it's fenced off because it's falling down . I also remember cycling to Burton Dasset before the M40 was built . Instead of the constant drone of traffic , all you could hear was the wind , the song of Skylarks and the occasional boom of out of date ordinance being exploded at nearby Kineton . Quote
Rob Taylor Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 Nice. I've not long moved to the area (Highworth) so may take a run up to Burford Hills soon. Looks lovely. Quote
fastbob Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 Occasionally I do a run that I call Hill Hopping . Start at Burton Dasset and look South West and in the far distance you will see the Malvern Hills . That's the final destination . Then I go to Edge Hill , up one end and down the other before setting off to Illmington Down . Ride up to the top and you will see Broadway Tower . Ride to Broadway Tower and then you can either head straight to the Malverns or go a bit further south towards Tewkesbury and Breedon Hill . Sometimes I will head North to Clee Hill where you can see Birmingham and the Brecon Beacons and the Malverns from one viewpoint . There's something satisfying about being able to see where you're going and where you've just been . Quote
