Keeper96 Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 Hi all, im looking to replace the clutch in my bike, has anyone tried the gecko clutches? they’re about £20 cheaper than an ebc friction plate kit. I’ll also replace the springs at the same time. I’m torn between replacing or reusing the steel plates though. if they’re Warped obviously I’ll change them but if they’re okay I’m not sure on what to do, a full ebc kit with steel plates is £140ish and on an apprentice wage that extra £70-90 makes a difference Quote
WD-40 Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 (edited) Never used that brand so can't give any info on that. Are you certain the friction plates are worn out? Have you measured their thickness? There will be a thickness spec in your workshop manual. If the clutch is slipping it's not always the friction plates that are the problem. Sometimes the cable needs to be adjusted, especially at the engine side and a bit of oil in the lever and throw out mechanism if it has one. Or sometimes the clutch slips because the oil needs a change. Or the wrong oil has been used. Could also be that the clutch springs are worn. There will be a spring length in the workshop manual. I haven’t stripped it yet so no measurements. I did adjust the clutch before Christmas at the engine end but haven’t had a chance to test it yet. however I’m planning a couple of big trips this year if covid allows it so I would like to know that everything is good before I go.
