I want to fit stiffer fork springs in my VFR.  I know the size and spring rate that I need:- 37mm dia. 334.3 Long, .85 - 1.1Kg/ mm.  My local bike mechanic can get springs but talking to him on the phone it seem like the springs in the catalogue he uses are the same as OEM. (.72 - 9.5kg/mm). I decided that I should point him in the right direction to avoid ambiguity.  The trouble is that in all my long life I have rarely bought car or bike spares that weren't manufacture spec.

You might think that it would be a simple job.  What am I missing?

The situation unfolds.  The VFR from new was built with progressive springs - entirely reasonable for a sports tourer but sprung for a 75kg rider!   I've been looking for a stiffer set.  Some companies offer a single option.  The chap I spoke to yesterday was convinced that his offering was 20% stiffer than standard but didn't know what standard is.  Guess what? He quotes me the  standard numbers.  I'm sure he  knows more than me but ......

How many bikes use progressive fork springs as standard?  Are all upgrades simple springs?

I have not known any bike to use progressive springs as standard

This doesn't mean they don't it just means I don't know

Have you looked at hyperpro? I have had very good results with them

I too find it a mindfield. standard springs on the bandit look like progressive but according to the bandit shop it doesnt mean they are..

so bought hagon progressive and as yet cant see a benefit. they sent them with lighter oil, so ive changed the oil again to a 10w to see if better.

my thoughts on progressive are that how can you adjust preload if the top of the spring is softer, all your doing is winding that bit down.

Keep us posted as so far im not sold on these.. have heard hyper pro are good though
