Neilr Posted August 9, 2021 Posted August 9, 2021 Hi looking for some advice, my ignition switch on my 2003 Yamaha fazer fzs 600 has packed up on me and I need to change it, the problem being I cannot get hold of a second hand ignition and a new one will set me back over £250. I have been told that the earlier model ignition will work but the wiring on the earlier models(sold on ebay)are of different colour coding. if anyone knows what wire match’s on the bike loom to the ignition loom this would be of great help. Thanks in advance Quote
iangaryprice Posted August 9, 2021 Posted August 9, 2021 If you are lucky then the connector and all the positions are the same, in which case the wire colours don't matter. If the connector ois different then it will be a bit more work. Check what hte switch does between your model and an earleier one. Generally the wiring will be +12v input to the switch. IN off position nothing should be ocnnected to the input. In the "on" position there will be at least one output. +12v output - allows all the lights, horn etc to work. +12v output - engine ECU/ignition and starter. Both of the above should be connected tot the +12v input There will also be a parking light position. +12v output to sidelights. Only connected when in the parking position. Hope this helps, Quote
Neilr Posted August 9, 2021 Author Posted August 9, 2021 Hi thanks for the info, on my bike the connector blocks have male connectors so in theory the ignition switch loom should have female to accommodate. Unfortunately on all early looms attached to the ignition switch they have male connectors so I’d have to try and remove the blocks and add the correct connectors. ive tried using pins from each block but seem stumped so was wondering if you would know the exact wire configuration. thanks again Quote
