TPL Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Hi I have an older derbi senda (2007), that have been working until a week ago. One morning it started as usual, but died after a couple of minutes riding. And it is after that nearly impossible to start it again. I manage to "run start" it a couple of times from cold, and it will then continue to run as long as I have a high rpm, but will die directly on lower rpm. It is impossible to kick-start it. And I have; Change gasoline Changed Carburetor (had thought about that earlier anyway), original carburetor is on. Change spark-plug checked vacuum gas vent (gas will come if i put the "lower" under vacuum) I have ordered a new gas vent, but it ssems to work.. What more can I try before I have to go to an repair shop? BR Quote
Fozzie Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 This thread needs to be in the pitstop section just quickly, for future. I seem to recall the Derbi senda 125 uses a common engine, I think it's a Piaggio lump that is also used by Aprilia in their little RS4 125. A girl I dated had one and I sorted a similar issue, it would cut out at lights and get worse over the week to the point you had to bump start it. It seemed to resolve if you took it for a long ride at high rpm. What happens if you charge the battery right up, and then try starting? Same symptoms or does it start ok? My guess at the time was the alternator only being rated for 85W, and it's just not enough for the bike, as bulbs alone consume 55W, never mind the rest of the electrical system, which includes relays, control units, and the dash cluster. This lead to the battery not dying, just not charging optimally, and the bike tended to be find if you left an optimate on it. Quote
