Admin Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 Ready for a brawl: Ducati’s new 2023 Streetfighter V4 line (the V4 S version shown here) brings Panigale V4 power in a naked-bike package. (Ducati/) Ducati’s 2023 models keep hammering on the high-performance segment, no holds barred. The applause has just died down from the Panigale V4 R’s appearance on stage, and now its naked sibling—the 2023 Streetfighter V4—has stepped into the spotlight. Ducati’s 1,103cc V-4, in both its sophisticated desmo edition and its more accessible Granturismo version, is proving a real winner, packing truckloads of power, torque, and flexibility into a surprisingly compact and light package. Largely due to this engine, the Streetfighter V4 was an immediate success right from its introduction in 2020, conquering enthusiast hearts and minds better than its V2 predecessor. The renewed 2023 Streetfighter V4 comes in three versions: the basic Streetfighter V4, Streetfighter V4 S, and Streetfighter V4 SP2. All share the major technical upgrades of the 2023 Panigale V4—only natural given the common roots. Basically, the new Streetfighter is a 2023 Panigale V4 stripped of its fairing and fitted with a taller and wider handlebar in place of the clip-ons, along with biplane winglets and Ducati’s latest electronics suite. The whole streetfighter idiom harks back to UK riders who took crashed sportbikes and put them back on the street sans bodywork. They often got a flat-black rattle-can paint job too. The new Streetfighter V4 S is way more refined, but black still suits it. (Ducati/) New Styling The new Streetfighter V4′s styling also has evolved from the previous edition’s, with a new LED headlight and a V-shaped daytime running lamp that make the bike look even more aggressive. The streamlined radiator remains one of the best integrated in motorcycling, and serves as a functional support for the biplane winglets. The Streetfighter shares its fuel tank with the Panigale V4, and is more ergonomically profiled at the knees; its capacity is also increased to 4.5 gallons. New and very “fast” is the monoposto rider-only seat; removing the aero cowl reveals a passenger section. The seat itself is generously padded (2.4 inches thick) and gives the bike a 33.3-inch seat height. Ducati’s “Front Frame” Design The chassis is based on the pyramidal sheet-aluminum structure Ducati calls a “front frame.” This uses the engine as an integral stressed chassis member for a very light construction, rigid overall in terms of both flex and torsion. The chassis geometry leans toward the sport segment: 58.6-inch wheelbase, 24.5 degrees of steering rake, and 100mm (3.9 inches) of trail. The Streetfighters’ minimal frames really make the dense engine package stand out, from any angle. (Ducati/) Suspension is courtesy of a 43mm male-slider Showa BPF fork and with a gas-charged Sachs shock at the rear. Five-spoke cast-aluminum wheels wear Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV Corsa radials (120/70-17 front, 200/60-17 rear). The tires are common for all three Streetfighter models. As for brakes, the Streetfighter uses twin 330mm Brembo front rotors and Stylema Monoblock calipers, managed by Bosch Cornering ABS EVO. Ducati Streetfighter V4 S The Streetfighter V4 S gets the full Öhlins suspension treatment: Its 43mm NIX 30 fork and TTX 36 shock are electronically managed by Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 event-mode software. In addition, it rolls on forged-aluminum three-spoke Marchesini wheels. The base-model Streetfighter V4 comes with Showa/Sachs suspension. The V4 S upgrades that to Ölins front and rear. (Ducati/) Compared to the previous Streetfighter, positioning the swingarm pivot 4mm higher is a very meaningful chassis evolution. This was based on racing experience gathered by Ducati Reparto Corse; the change in swingarm geometry reduces squatting under acceleration and also helps put more load on the front end for more stable and precise steering response. Ducati Streetfighter V4 SP2 The Streetfighter V4 SP2 shares the same Ducati Panigale V4 Stradale power unit in its basic 208 hp version, but a titanium and carbon fiber Akrapovič exhaust system is available—this boosts engine output into the 220 hp region, but is for track use only. Anticipating more track use, the Streetfighter V4 SP2 is equipped with a light, compact dry clutch. This allows the engine to use a special lubricant that Ducati Corse developed with Shell Oil, specifically designed for racing. Ducati offers the Streetfighter in several trim levels, and the top of the line is the Streetfighter V4 SP2. Note the dry clutch, which lets the engine use a special Shell lubricant designed specifically for racetrack use. (Ducati/) Further anticipating track use, the V4 SP2 gets Brembo Stylema R calipers, with an air-cooling circuit to the pistons. Even more meaningful, the SP2 rolls on beautiful carbon fiber wheels that save almost 4 pounds over the forged-aluminum Streetfighter V4S components. The SP2 also gets carbon fiber wheels (weighing 4 pounds less than the aluminum hoops) and Brembo Stylema R brake calipers. (Ducati/) As with any Ducati model, the electronics suite plays a relevant role in the bike’s overall performance. A new, 5-inch TFT display provides a number of information, including lap time and more thanks to the new Track Evo display mode, particularly tailored to Streetfighter V4 SP2 and which includes a lap timer and data analyzer. The new display also acts as a connectivity control system. Riders can choose from four power modes: Full, High, Medium, and Wet. (In Wet mode the engine delivers only 165 hp.) The electronics suite includes Traction Control, Slide Control, Wheelie Control, Power Launch sequence, Engine Brake control, Active Suspension Management system, and—most important—the ABS Cornering EVO. Totally new is the strategy of the Quick Shift up-down Evo 2, for faster, more precise shifting even in extreme riding conditions. Ducati Streetfighter V4 weighs 397 pounds for the basic model and 390 pounds for the SP2. 2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 Specs MSRP: $22,095 Engine: Liquid-cooled V-4; 4 valves/cyl.
