Nippon seiki speedometer

I am restoring a 1980 suzuki ts250er and my problem is that the speedometer only works when driven anticlockwise unfortunately the front wheel driven cable turns clockwise. So is it possible to modify the speedometer to run clockwise?

I used to own a ts 250 about that time my cable went and is was the cable inside the cable that had snapped hope it helps

Nope.  I suppose you could try swapping your forks and front wheel around, so the speedo drive and brakeplate is on the right instead of the left, but that will cause endless problems elsewhere.

 

How did your speedo and speedo drive get mismatched?  Either the speedo is incorrect, or the front wheel / brakeplate is incorrect.

This bike came as a box of bits, I did consider swapping the forks and wheel around but  quickly dismissed that idea. I dismantled the speedo but don't understand how to make it work in the other direction. The spinning magnet obviously induces a magnetic field into the metal dish to make the needle turn .Surely a similar speedo which uses anticlockwise rotation works the same way?

" I dismantled the speedo" could be your answer. Maybe time to have another look in there, something is clearly not quite right. Good luck.
