I’m planing to go to the GP this August at Silverston for the first time.

I’ve booked in to stay at a Travelodge on the M40 service station but if I can find something cheaper than the £150 price tag, I’d be happy.

I do own a van so parking up somewhere is an option and just crashing in the back…. I don’t know the area though and worried my van might be raided, even though I’ll be in the back. Tool theft is a concern for me.

I’m really just trying to find out from others experience if there are some better options available for less.

Are you going for race day or the weekend? Not a lot in it price wise, you could camp in the van.

Tools in the van? there's a dodgy street in every village, town and city in the country, that's a lottery. Take them out would be my advice, give the van a clean while you are at it!

Weekend.

The van will be emptied. I just know some will break in just to have a look weather it’s sign-written or not.

I would highly doubt it would get broken into at a race event at Silverstone. The car park and campsites will be full of similar vehicles.

If it was going to be broken into anywhere it would be the services on the motorway, I'd give them a wide berth. Check out any hotel in Oxford, Bicester, Milton Keynes even. You'd only be half an hour or so away. The traffic is awful at Silverstone they have this one way thing going on, nightmare.

I'd spend some money on  grandstand seating as well if I was you, much better under cover with a screen nearby.

I'd just park where everyone else is parking their vans. The fact you plan to sleep in the van will stop 99% or break in attempts once they hear "f**k off"

Very few opportunists want to deal with an occupied van. They want unnattended vans with very few people / no one around
