New to riding etc but have been thinking about a cheap track bike, mainly to give me an opportunity to get some experience on a bike that can go sliding through a gravel pit without me shedding a tear.

I unfortunatley don't have a garage right now nor a van so this would include having to buy and insure a euro6 compliant van due to living near a stuid ULEZ city

I have absolutley zero idea about any bike but figured a cheap 600 sports bike on road tyres

The main gola here is learning and experiencing more advanced riding aspects that will translate to a better and safer understanding on the road when I ride more enthusiastically.

Any inputs, thoughts or suggestions would be great

Hi, why don't you go to one of the race schools, you can hire everything and have a great day out. Give yourself a much better idea of what you may want before you spend loads of money. You have to have a licence though so maybe get that done first.

I didn't even know they existed. I will havea a google now.

The original thread was originally going to ask about track bike rental but figured it was a stupid question.

I'd much ratehr rent for a few days a year and avoid all the faff of me getting kitted out with race gear, a bike and a bloody van.

Most I've found so far have silly excesses for any crash damage. Just waiting on a quote for an insurance policy covering track day damage costs etc.

I can alomost 100% predict I end up binning it to some degree as a completley fresh rider with ZERO experince.

Most trackday organisations have hire bikes most from separate companies and Cost varies.
High excess is justifiable and shouldn’t be moaned about, as your own statement says the cost if you binned it (your own bike) beyond a bit of gravel rash would bring tears so they still have a valuable bike to fix and earn money from.

levels of cheapest are your own bike but requires brake lever protection and back protection mandatory before you can venture onto track, then hire, buy a track bike, buy a new bike to turn track bike.

Oh I'm not suggesting their excess is unreasonable, it's just a charge that I'd get insurance to cover.

This is partially why I'd consider buying something cheap as paying said excess quickly equates to me buying my own bike if I'm going to run out of skill like I predict.
