Mold Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 Hello, I have attached an extra brake light but I haven't wired it up yet, as removing the back fairing is a bit of a carry on and I'll just do it when I have the time. It's small and at the moment it is just acting as a reflector (the official brake light is working). Because it's not wired up, will I have to remove it before my MOT or can I leave it on? Thanks Quote
husoi Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 You don't have to remove it. They will only look at the main one. Secondary break lights aren't part of MOT checks 1 1 Quote

Secondary break lights aren't part of MOT checks From MOT inspection manual:- 4.3.1. Presence, condition and operation "Additional stop lamps, over and above the requirements, must be tested. However, if you are not certain that they are connected, you should give the benefit of this doubt." .Gov MOT Inspection I know they should but I wouldn't expect every tester to know that fine detail and 'should give the benifit of the doubt' is open to interpretation. I guess the answer is to tell the tester beforehand that the additional stop light is not connected, maybe even printing out a copy of the guidance with you and keep it on you back pocket if you think he might get arsey. The problem is once a minor, major or fail is recorded onto the DVLA MOT system it's almost impossible to remove even when it complete codswallop. 1 Quote

I have a brake light on my toolbox on the pan and was never tested or even looked at. I have extra rear light on the shadow and the guy couldn't care less. Last time I had not on the pan, a few months ago, the guy said that additional lights are never inspected. 1 Quote
