Oh man - I feel for you. Always possible that it was just a bit of dirt in the fuel system that got washed through.

My suggestion would be to re-try it today. It might not happen. Or it might happen again, in which case you know that it's not an intermittent fault - and that's great news for diagnosis.

i have purchased some berrymans carb n stuff cleaner, which is currently en route.....

there will be much vengeance on any crud in the carbs and from what i gather, my nostrils....

Big guns are now officially out and being loaded..... 😬

Is there a communal dunce hat?

If there is, I'm wearing it for the next few days.....

So cast your mind back to me sorting out the fuel tap and the brass tube insert...

Seems I'd misread the evidence in front of me and made the brass tube fit into the "reserve" position. Which is a bit of a chuckle.

Only I've been running it on just a few litres of fuel cos that tank is on and off like my ex wife's pants were.

Oops.

Started having a grumpy moment with trying to make the tube fit then after a cuppa and a vape, realized that I don't have to do that. I just turned the fuel tap knob through 180' and other than the arrow now pointing the wrong way at OFF it should work fine.

I was effectively starving it if fuel.

Oops.

Seems to run ok on 95 aswell. As it actually starts now.

😂😞😱😍👋

Other emojis are available.im going to leave the fuel filter in there but the pipe is really tight and it's hard not to kink it.

Took the fairings into work and fitted a couple of riv nuts on the bits I had to grind off so that's nice.

The berrymans is currently doing its thing on the old jets as i'm intrigued as to how well it does. It doesn't smell. Which was odd. Everyone said it was hideous but nada.

Tyres and chain next....local guy to me has some pirelli Angel gt2 in 120/180 flavour for £250 odd. Chain is another ton.

In the words of Robert Oppenheimer:

"Yup, that'll do"....

So.....

Spent some money this week. Got a guy local to me who comes round and fits tyres for you, so after burning my own head trying to work out what tyres is should get. we decided on some black rubber ones that are round in shape,,,,  :D Wednesday is T-day.

Then i went on that famous auction site and got a new 530 chain and sprockets (my sprockets are ok but hey, why not!!) and a box of pipe clips as i dont think cable ties will pass the MOT holding the fuel lines onto the filter...  :)

Then it dawned on me that without paddock stands, removing both wheels may be um, interesting....I bought an ABBA stand up at the show but didnt get the wheels up attachment. However my boss has offered to lend me his as he's not using it. Result.

First time using the abba stand was terrifying. didnt really fancy dropping the half ton monster! Turns out that they dont list my bike on their site as the side panels have to come off to get at the swinging arm bolt/nut. So with it all off, i got it on, and lifted it up. COOOOOOOL. happy days.

Then i had a flash of inspiration, using the sockets that go into the stand, i marked the side panels and then marked the back of the panels. Then got out a 32mm hole saw and cut out the panels. DONT PANIC!! i have some grommets to go in the holes and cover them up. That way i can use the stand without faff.

Whilst all this was happening, i removed the centre stand as realistically i dont need it, rubbed it down and painted it as it looked like a 1970's alfa romeo. It might go back on, its only two bolts and a spring so its not the end of the world.

Put the fairings back on with the new shiney stainless bolt set that i bought, some of which i have no clue whatsoever about....... i;m sure they'll find a hole!

Tested out the new clinchnuts i fitted and all seems ok.

It still starts a bit funky, but to be honest, i'm losing the will to live with the carbs and the fuelling system at the moment.

I'll try and get some pictures when i'm off work again. Sometime in april... LOL!!!

Not a fan of this abba stand thing. Seems sketchy as hell on a bike that weighs the same as a small moon...😱

I wouldn`t worry too much set up correctly they are fine. I have 3 bikes up on them at the moment and certainly trust them more than paddock stands.

Cheers

Heh, thanks for the reassurance. The cbr is front heavy and I had to put all my (considerable) weight on the seat to get it to waggle the front wheel. 😂

Maybe that's the key. "Shiraz and the art of motorcycle maintenance"

Not recommended.

I woke one Sunday morning to the sight of an XJ9 with the rear cut off and a delightful Hammerite urban camo paint job.

So close and yet....

Chain and sprockets day.

Much faffing about and the rear wheel is out, whoever designed that brake caliper needs a poke with a sharp stick. Sprocket off, cleaned up the wheel and new one one.

Front sprocket required the slave cylinder to be removed and the cover off, so after scraping out 3/8" of crap and cleaning it up, the old sprocket came off. Strange looking damper unit on it too.

That didn't fit the new one so got put to one side just in case.

Chain was fitted and aligned eventually as it was a bit of a learning experience with the chain link tool.

Got it all back together and now the clutch lever won't move.

I imagine it's something simple but for today, that's enough.

Might look at it tomorrow.

No pics as I forgot, sorry.

After a shocker of a nights sleep, I was in the man cave doing stuff.

Took the covers off and then the slave cylinder. I think my wingman had pulled the clutch while we were messing about yesterday and the slave cylinder had moved causing it to lock up. Easily sorted. Put it back on after releasing the pressure and the clutch was back.*

Went to town with the DNA kit I'd bought and dobbed datatool stuff on just about anything I could get at and a few bits I couldn't. 😂

Wheeled it out of its home for the last few months to take some pics (as promised) and then took it up the alleyway (Ooer Mrs). Nothing taxing, the clutch was fine but the lever was a little too high, quick adjustment and that was sorted.

Attached the quad lock doodad for days when I go too far. Just need a 12-5v regulator with a usb c and that'll be sorted.

So.

Insurance, MOT and tax and I reckon jobs done....

*Clutch biting point seems a bit high. 😱😂

Looks fantastic. Lovely bit of kit. You must be well pleased.

I am @Hairsy. And I genuinely need to thank you. Your cbr thread helped me massively.

I was pleasantly surprised when I put all the plastic back on and stood back. Went over it with some compound to remove some of the "age" marks on it, then some wax.

Just sorting insurance at the moment. Ranges from £250 up to over a grand. 😱😂

Then book an MOT and go the most convoluted route ever to get to said mot station to bed in brakes and tyres!

Oh and make sure it actually works properly!! 😂

I'm sure there will be addendums to this, like touching up the popped paint bubble on the tank which really wound me up and other such exciting things...😁

Woohoo, happy days.

Was she a good ride, do you need a few more outings to get the hang of it and enjoy it?

Insurance starts tomorrow. My first of four days off. To the MOT station then I get to work out all the niggles and bugs. 😭😂🤞

We're here.

Maybe my first ride in 15 years should have been on something a bit less er, lively 😱😂

Passed. With flying colours. Not they test much on a museum piece. 😂

Stuck 50 miles on the clock before remembering that it still needs tax. Lol.

I'll do that in a minute. Oops. 😂😂

Things that need sorting:

Gear lever too high. My big feet got bored with trying to find gears.

Clutch slipping. Ah. Only when you give a handful at speed but on the shopping list nonetheless.

Happy days. ❤️

Congratulations. I had my 2017 day-to-day bike MoTd today and even that's a little nerve racking. I know exactly how it feels sitting there waiting for the verdict on your project.

I don't think I've ever had the gear lever right first time!

Heh. Me and the MOT guy taken the Mickey out of each other (I take the Peugeot and the Alfa there too) so when he clocked it was me and his favourite bike I knew I was gonna be ok. 😁
